When you turn it on nothing happens

I have a e machines m5310 that a couple of years ago qiute and we decided to get it out again. When you push the power button everything lights up but nothing happpens. No sound no picture but the cd drive sometimes works. And yes i have plugged it into an external monitor what should i do I have an e-machine M5310 laptop. It will no longer turn on when I try to power it up, even with a AC adapter plugged in. Could it be the battery, the power supply or both? It also used to run rather hot. It has an Athlon XP-14 processor and runs Windows XP home edition. I know the battery is no good, but would replacing that alone fix it?

Probably there is lockup. release the battery and disconnect the power cord press and the power button for 7 seconds to perform component discharge. Connect power and test.

Good Luck

Try starting without the battery. Then try alternating the memory, a bad battery or memory chip can cause this.

No, replacing the battery alone will not fix it. This sounds like the motherboard will need to be replaced.

Try to replace the AC Adapter or the battery. If that doesnt work out bring it to a Geek Squad like at Best Buy.

Do NOT under any circumstances bring it to Geek Squad. You will get it back in worse shape. Go to ripoffreport.com and check it out for yourself. I make a lot of money fixing geek squad's screwups.

I started at the edge of fabric but ended off the fabric. Now E-1.

Check the bobbin area to be sure there aren't any thread tangles that may be causing the jam.

Take it back to the dealer and show them what is happening.

It sounds like the timing might need adjusting.

1991 Toyota SR5 won't start when the weather is very hot

I checked the gages of the wiring which went into the battery, as suggested by another person on the site, but nothing looked out of place. I then proceeded to check wiring connections throughout the vehicle and found there were 2 sets of wires on the driver's side which were not attached to its counterpart. I remember the mechanics disconnecting those a few years ago, as they stated it was causing the problem. I decided to re-establish the connection for both sets of wires and the truck started immediately with out any further problems.

Need help fixing

I had the same problem a couple years ago with mine. After letting it set for several months, I tried to plug it in again after moving into another house. All of a sudden, it started working again. That was 1 year ago, but just last week...it did it again. I noticed that it does this if it is left on for an extended amount of time (my wife goes to bed at night and leaves it on). I cannot find anything on how to fix it, and no warranty assistance from RCA. I'm purchasing a Sony today, but will hold onto the RCA in case it decides to work again.
