I found websites that sell them for a little under $20 by typing in the model number on the front of the remote.

SOURCE: appears no power in unit. no lights or display.

Sounds like faulty DC regulation in the power supply - due to numerous faulty electrolytic capacitors and/or IC regulators.

Check ALL the caps, and replace ALL of them as required. (You can easily do a visual inspection of the caps - some may have bulged, split their vents (in their tops) or leaked.) Electrolytics tend to have a short life, and, as these are inexpensive, you can adopt the blanket approach and replace all of them in the PSU circuit. They are available in every electronics shop - including Radio Shack. If this does NOT fix the 'dying power' issue, the unit may have to be submitted to a repair centre for a quote on further repair, and parts if necessary. At least with a quote you can make a decision afterwards as to whether it is worthwhile fixing or not. Up to you.

Tray is lock

Try inserting a pin through the hole beneath the pray. Push the eject button and then insert. If you can't find such a hole, push the eject button and tap hard on the top of the tray twice or thrice. If it is not still working, check for any loose connection.

JVC XV-N212 DVD player - unlocking region code

It is not a permanent hack, you will have to to it over for every movie you put in.

1. When "REGION CODE ERROR" shows on screen after you've input your wrong-region DVD you push "ON SCREEN".

2. When the DVD-menu is showing push "ON SCREEN" again and another DVD-menu will appear.

3. Move the arrow over to the clock and press enter. The menu asks for "TIME" and you write 0:00:00 and push enter.

4. You will now see the menu for the movie. Remove the DVD-menu by pushing "ON SCREEN" once. You can now watch the movie.

Don't think theres a pernament one for this player yet but i'll try and post it on here if i ever find one. Sorry.

LOCK displayed on the dvd player

Though it may be different for different models, the JVC XV-N40 DVD Player LOCK can be disengaged (and engaged) by pressing the [EJECT] button while holding-down the [STOP] button. Yes, it's that simple but I had to search online to find it too. The XV-N212 did not appear on JVC's website when I looked for it there.

Here's a link to the material that coves with the player in the box:

Happy viewing to all!

Colour gone

Did you possibly switch where your wires are hooked up? I just tried hooking my player up to a new tv and I had a black and white picture at one point. Make sure your video wires hook to the proper colored ports.
