Try reinstallign Word, it seems your normal.dot has incorrect settings. What happens if you open a word file without opening word first? Does word work normally? Than clear the document and save it as normal.dot in your my documents folder.

HP w17e monitor hooked up to my dell laptop has floating input not supported box, how can i get the two screens to work together

no PC stated, why post lacking what is connect to what.?
Floating, ahh, a floating error box on the desktop, sure.
the typical PC laptop
has hot key, (in the operators guide for sure)
that toggles like this.
1: auto
2: external
3: internal.
4; both.
this is covered in the PCs manual but no PC stated so no help possible. lacking facts like this.

my guess the word floating means, on the screen local
i see a box floating on the screen, actually just a warning message.
that means the UNSTATED OS on your PC does not support that monitor, (its not a crysis)
what OS, XP, W7, W8 or w10, we can not guess OS ever.
you need to say.??????????????????????????????

w17e is now 12 years old (means as old as)
and a new PC with new OS may not support this old a monitor. (eg windows 10 might not)
but we can still make it work.
the trick is set the PCs resolution to external monitor max.
1440 by 900

exceeding this resolution the monitor will be dead
or if lucky, will show, "OUT OF RANGE"
ON the old external monitor.

to get ride the floating error, youd have to tell me
what PC you have,
and what OS you run,
click control panel + system , see what OS is there, easy as pie.

IS this unstated PC connected to the internet.
if yes
see this, MS does support it , if connected

The screen is black and a blue box in the middle that states "analog out of range. 67.0kHz/60Hz

Try to see if this works on another computer first, if it does, then it assumes the monitor is ok.
Then as the computer boots up, boot to safe mode by pressing F8 and once in that state, set the display to a mode that the graphics card will support.
If none of the full colour options work, the graphics card may be incompatible, try changing the graphics card.

My samsung 940N acts like a florescent tube, tries to start and doesn't

Use the self test feature.. follow the steps..

1. Turn off both your computer and the monitor.
2. Unplug the video cable from the back of the computer.
3. Turn on the monitor.
If the monitor is functioning properly, you will see a box in the illustration below.
This box appears during normal operation if the video cable becomes disconnected or
damaged.
4. Turn off your monitor and reconnect the video cable; then turn on both your computer and the
monitor.
If your monitor screen remains blank after using the previous procedure, check your video
controller and computer system; your monitor is functioning properly.

Warning

The Power supply inside the monitor can be hazardous and donot open the monitor while power on.

Donot work with the monitor when it is open and the power supply is on.

If there is something wrong with the input signal, a message appears on the screen or the
screen goes blank although the power indicator LED is still on. The message may indicate
that the monitor is out of scan range or that you need to check the signal cable.

DELL E153FPf doesn't show the image

OSD Warning Messages A warning message may appear on the screen indicating that the monitor is out of sync range.
Cannot Display This Video Mode
This means that the monitor cannot synchronize with the signal that it is receiving from the computer. Either the signal is too high or too low for the monitor to use. See Specifications for the Horizontal and Vertical frequency ranges addressable by this monitor. Recommended mode is 1024x768 @ 60Hz.
Occasionally, no warning message appears, but the screen is blank. This could also indicate that the monitor is not synchronizing with the computer or the monitor is in a power save mode.

INPUT SIGNAL OUT OF RANGE

some how your screen resolution has changed above or below what your monitor can display. you need to boot your computer using another monitor that can work with the resolution your computer has switched to(i used a spare crt monitor when it happened to me) change your resolution in display properties to a normal level like 1027x768, and while the computer is on swap the monitor cables to verify the lcd is working.
It is perfectly safe to unplug the video cable and plug it back in while the computer is turnned on.

Monitor out of range

Most commonly, this problem is caused by an incorrect refresh rate setting. LCD monitors typically DO NOT support refresh rates higher than 60hz - and this is no exception. Try running the game in "safe mode" if it has one. Adjusting the in-game video settings should solve the problem, just look for a screen refresh rate or any video-related setting with a number followed by "hz". Set it to 60, everything should be fine.

It could also be that at some point the game changes resolution (this frequently occurs if there is an in-game movie or cut-scene). In this case the resolution settings for the in-game movie might be at fault, check them if you can.

Range Warning

first, 68.5 khz -85hz means horizontal raster frequency of source signal is at 68.5 kilohertz and repeats vertically at 85 hertz. (hertz means "cycles per second). the sony monitor cannot "read" the signal being sent from the pc. change the screen resolution to a lower number like 75 or 70 hertz vertical.

Monitor is working out of scan range

It probabily happens after you change the settings of display in control panel (windows), if so restart the machine and press function key <F8> after memory test and you shoud get to the startup menu, choose VGA mode and undo the changes in display that you have made.
