radio shack only has 250v/15amp -- I've tried multiple stores and all say they dont have a 125v/15amp -- do you have the same dimension 4 genius and are you sure it wasn't a 250v that you used?

  • Jim Thurston Dec 22, 2010

Just checked. It is 250v, sorry for bad lead. I am searching. Will avise you, if I find 125/15amp..

Panasonic dimension 4 microwave/convection oven Micvrowave part of oven not working, convection oven/grill fine. Is it a problem with the magnetron? Is there some form of internal fuse?

It sounds like the magnetron may have either failed or is not being supplied with the extremely high voltage required to run it.
Make sure the !!!!capacitor is discharged!!!!! before attempting any sort of repair.
Check the door interlock switches first then the high voltage diode with either an AVO model 8 on high resistance range for short circuit, the capacitor can fail and go short circuit, the feed fuse on the primary of the high voltage transformer and then finally, the magnetron is best checked by substitution.
Hope that helps.

The microwave won't turn on. it is off completely. Just happened last night. Have checked the electric fuses, poked the buttons, but noty on. Stove is ok.

You have to open it up and see if you can find the power fuse, usually a BUSS 15amp Slo Blo that protects the Microwave Tube from drawing too much current and causing a fire. These fuses degrade over time or some get through that are not quite 15 amps and blow.

Where is the fuse located?

If the model number is correct, there is a small input line filter board with a 125V, 20 AMP line fuse inside the microwave. Its usually mounted on a small input line filter board at the point where the power cord enters the back of the unit. You will need to UNPLUG the microwave oven and remove the exterior case to access. The case comes off in various ways depending on manufacture and model. I found this illustration at pcappliancerepair.com based on the model number you listed this question under:

http://pcappliancerepair.com/model-display.php

The line filter is listed as item 1420. The fuse will be mounted to this board.

You can purchase replacement fuses at any hardware store. You can usually purchase a box of fuses at a hardware store for just a little more than what the manufacturer charges for a single fuse. 125V, 20AMP Slow Blow fuses are recommended.

If you have any questions, or need assistance troubleshooting, please post back and let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.

NOTE: Make sure you take any resistance readings with the microwave UNPLUGGED and the component under test isolated (removed) from the circuit.

No power. I changed fuse but microwave blows it immediately.

Be very careful! Standard microwaves have 2100volt capacitors and commercial ones 4000 volt capacitors.
*Decharge your capacitor(s) before doing diagnostics*.
You are now testing the high voltage side (as it works on convection). The main components are a transformer, a capacitor, a diode and a magnetron (havent seen a triac in a panasonic residential). If you have a proper meter that can test uf, decharge the capacitor, then test the capacitor, if it reads 0, you need a new capacitor (10$ used typically, 14$ new from ebay). To test the magnetron, decharge the capacitor first, remove the spade connections, test each leg to the frame of the microwave... if it shows measurable resistance, the magnetron is bad. The transformer is not something you test as I personally dont have a 4000 volt meter. If the diode, the magnetron and capacitor are okay, then the transformer is bad. To eliminate any other function, disconnect the low voltage to the transformer run a micropower cycle and check the fuse.
Hope that helps. My first instinct is the capacitor.

Sharp R-930AK convection/microwave suddenly died

You need to open the oven (unplugged) by removing the screws along the case. Inside, there is a 20 amp fast blow fuse that you can get at Radio Shack. It looks cylindrical and white. I would test that first. However, replacing the fuse may work, but then, other components may have shorted inside causing the fuse to blow. Try the fuse replacement/test it first. Good luck
