call your ISP and ask them to try reset ur pw and ask them to test the new pw on there test machine. if it works at their end but not at ur modem, it might be a modem issue...
try reseting the modem, if still not working... need to try another modem

Sounds like you know what your doing but I would just check that
the security method you are using is the same on both the laptop and the router. WPA, WEP, etc.
