Try using the code 136900. If this password works, access the general setup menu using your remote, and chose the Disc Unlock option.

I understand this frustration, and truly hope this helps.

Try using the password 136900. If this works for you, then using your remote, go to the general set up menu and select the Disc Unlock option.

My DVP 3962/37 is asking for a password and I have no idea what to do! It is a Phillips DVD player.

Hi there,

This sounds like the child access control lock or the disc lock to me. One feature of Philips machine's is a child access lock which you can set to a level of your choice. When the machine prompts you for the password try entering the following code 136900 then press enter this is the default password code for this particular model (see your user manual page 44, the manual can be downloaded from the Philips website) you can change this password if you wish after this. To deactivate the child lock select Setup menu then pressing up or down select Parental. the the protection level is rated from 1 to 8 select the level you wish by using the up or down buttons and then press enter it will then ask for the password (default 136900) level 8 will deactivate the parental control.

Hope this helps,
James

When I put my daughter's Leap Frog brand DVD into our Phillips DVP392 player, it asks for a password. It doesn't do this for any other DVD. Ideas?

i think you should ask your daughter if she put passwords to lock the DVD.if not then its compatibility issue.i mean its not compatible or manufacturer encoded passwords to avoid piracy.

Asking for a password

I had the password problem with the Phillips DVP-5140. I looked up the user manual on the Phillips website and searched for "password". There is a manufacturer default password of 136900. I entered that number and was then able to play the DVD. The password may be different for other models, but you can find the default in the user manual for your specific model.
