Remove the batteries and the card from the camera and clean it with something smooth and dry ...after that reinsert the card in th ecamera several times until it is recognised..this happens when the card it is not proper inserted ..or something is meesing with the sensor that detects the cover position...so a gentle cleaning inside will help also..

Turns off when cover is closed

First don't spent too much mont for repairs, because cameras are becoming cheaper and cheaper and in the mean while better and better.
You could try to open and close the cover several times and hope it starts working as it should. It has a switch connected to it, so the camera can see if the cover is open or closed. Now it is giving the wrong information. If the camera comes on, when the cover is open, that indicates the battery is still good, unless the it stops working within a short period of time.

My olympus stylus 6020 is about 5 months old. while trying it out in fresh water, the camera worked initially and then after a couple of pictures turned off and a "reformat memory card' msg came...

Once a week, I climb a mountain and shout for all the world to hear...."the only truly waterproof camera is one in a specially-designed plastic waterproof housing. Any point and shoot camera that says it's waterproof WILL LEAK! You just don't know when."

I have a new Olympus Stylus Tough-3000. Half of my vacation pictures have disappeared. When viewing the pictures there is a frame called "Picture Error" . I had viewed the pictures...

You can use a card reader to try to download them to your computer. You could also take the card to a store like Walmart and use one of their picture making machines.
