I think you are quite right but it will have to be removed for service.
Disconnect the mains supply and place it on a sturdy covered table.
Remove the cabinet top/sides.
Check the door mechanism, you may find that one of the latches is not connecting properly and stops the other latch from lifting.
Spares are available from Panasonic dealers and espares.com etc etc etc.

Panasonic microwave oven model nn-h965bfx door wont close. feels like spring or something is no longer latching the door close.

I have the same model microwave. When I opened the thing up I noticed that the latch and safety switches are connected to the chasses with two screws. The problem with this design is the metal that holds the microwave together bends every single time you open the door over time this causes metal fatigue. The part that has to be replaced to fix this is the chasses itself. I have found a way to rig it up and work for a while. I don't know how long it will last, but it is working now. I used a little hole tape and a 1x2 piece of wood about 6" in length. Put the piece of wood on the side of the latch closest to the cooking section of the microwave. Then put the hole tape from the top lip to one screw in the latch. This seems to be keeping it from moving for now.

I have a Panasonic microwave. It is Model NN-T774SF. It has an inverter. The latch on the door will not close. Is it worth the cost of repair?

This is usually a pretty simple fix.

The spring has probably become disconnected from the door latch head assembly or inner door panel.

If so, you can either order a replacement for the broken part, or install a small screw into the broken part, reinforce it with epoxy, and then reassemble everything.

Normally you have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the parts involved.

Yes, to take down the face you must have the unit fully accessible - the bolts are accessible only from the rear.

NN-T774 INVERTER STOPPED WORKING AFTER 4 WEEKS

Check to make sure one of the plastic hooks on the door was not broken off. If both door hook latches are functional then the most likely cause of your problem is one of the latch switches located behind the control panel. These switches will fail if the oven user opens the door frequently BEFORE the cook cycle ends. Always push STOP/RESET before opening any microwave oven door.

Panasonic over the range "genius" model door won't open. Is there lock on it?

No, there is no lock. The latch is jammed. This is a toughie. Breaking the door or latch seems wasteful. Can you return it? How did it get "stuck"? m

Panasonic Inverter door stuck

The door latch mechanism is all plastic and commonly breaks. You have to take the cover off and work on it from the inside.

Another Microwave that shuts down after 3 seconds of microwave operation

This model uses an inverter to produce high voltage. That symptom is an usually indication of a problem with the inverter. Due to the lethal voltages involved, I do not recommend that a person without training and experience ever work on these models. And of course at less than 1 year, this would still be under warranty if you have your sales receipt. You should be able to locate a Panasonic-authorized servicer here: http://www.pasc.panasonic.com/WhereTo/FindServicer.asp?Pass=1 I would mention the exact symptom when you call so the technician can bring a new inverter with him when he comes out to repair it. Might save you having it pulled into the shop. Good luck!
