I had the same problem. The drivers on the manufacturer's site did not work. Only the original drivers on the CD that came with the motherbaord.

SOURCE: I just installed windows xp on a emachines model

You actually don't need an executable or a setup file to install the driver. When you unzip the set of files, put them on a location on your C:\ drive where you'll know your'll find them like c:\drivers\ethernet (just as an example) Go into device manager and under the device driver for the ethernet controller, right click and then go to "Update Driver." When you get the Hardware Update Wizard, select, "No, not this time" and choose "Install from a list or specific location." Check the "Include this location in the search:" and then browse to the directory where you extracted the files.i.e c:\drivers\ethernet\ and click next until the wizard finishes installing the driver.

I hope that makes sense if you need further clarification please reply back to this post. Please don't rate me until I help you resolve your issue. I will help you resolve it.

After reinstalling Windows XP, my PC can't detect

Hi,
Yes you need to install the ethernet driver . You can download it here. You can either enter your service tag number which can be found on the back of your CPU or you can manually select the model. Once done, it will display all the available drivers for your device. Make sure you choose the right Operating System and download/save the ethernet driver you need. Install it ands reboot the computer. Once the right driver has been installed, your computer should be able to detect your modem again.
Hope this helps.

My gateway inside my desktop keeps disconnecting from my ethernet can you tell me what I need to do I have a Sony VAIO VGC 310 with window 7 upgrade

This computer's original OS was Windows XP. Check with the Intel Website (www.Intel.com) to see if there is an updated driver for the Ethernet Card and Chipset for the Intel Pro/100 Ethernet Driver for Windows 7. Intel has a utility you can run (follow the instructions) which will detect all your Intel Chipset hardware and provide you with updated driver information. If there is no Windows 7 driver, try using these steps to correct the issue: 1) download the most current ethernet driver from Intel and save to a folder. 2) Once the download is complete, locate the file and right click on it, click on "Properties" 3) select the Compatibility tab and set the options to run the program in Compatibility mode for Windows XP Service Pack 2. 4) A little farther down in the windows, check the box that says "Run as Administrator" 5) apply the settings and close the properties box. 6) double click the the driver file to activate its install. Follow directions and see if this helps your issue. You may need to remove the originial driver files first. To do this, Go to the Device Manager in the control panel from the start menu, Find your Ethernet adapter in the Network Adapters hardware list, right click and select "uninstall" and check the box to remove the driver files, then click okay - then reboot the machine, the run the new driver file you downloaded from Intel in compatibility mode per my previous instructions. If this doesn't solve your issue, I recommend installing a new network card that is compatible with Windows 7. Its an easy install and shouldn't cost you very much . . . less that $25.00 and should take only about 15 minutes to install. Here is a link to Netgear and their Windows 7 compatible hardware Ethernet card for about $19.00. http://www.netgear.com/Products/Adapters/WiredAdapters/FA311.aspx

Your local Wal-Mart or Target will probably have these and other brands in stock.

Hope this helps FixYa! If you find this information helpful, please leave feedback.

Reinstalled Windows XP no ethernet card

Hi,

It seems that after re-installing windows you have missed the Driver installation for your hardware. If you have a disk (which reads Drivers and Utilities) that came with your computer, You can insert it in your CD Driver and select the Driver for Network adapter. If you do not have a disc, you can always visit the Dell's support site i.e.:support.dell.com and Get the drivers suitable for your hardware by selecting the model or Entering the Service Tag of your Dell computer.

For your convenience I am providing below the link for Drivers for Dimension 4700 Desktop PC as you have mentioned.
Intel (R) PRO/100 Driver for Dimension 4700

Hope you find this information helpful.

PC says no ethernet card (NIC) after reinstalled

First make sure the card (if a stand alone card ) is properly set in place (you'll have to open the computer and manually test it . Do this with the computer off!). If this is not the case or, you have the card built into the motherboard, you should re-install the drivers from your original installation CD. Otherwise you may need a friend or, atrip to a library/colleg etc, to download the proper drivers.

I reinstalled Windows XP to my computer and now i cant get the internet. There is a yellow question mark and exlmation point next to Ethernet Controller and it has a code 28 error.

You should have had 2 cds that came with your computer. The 2nd one has all the drivers on it. Install the drivers and your problem will go away.

My Ethernet card doesn't work on my n845wn Intel

It's possible the drivers are not installed.. To check if drivers are properly installed for the Ethernet card, if you have win XP
* go to Start>Control Panel>System> click on Hardware tab, then Device Manager
- once you're on Device Manager, look for network adapter, you should see something like "Via Rhine II Fast Ethernet Adapter", this is just an example, you may have a different brand of Ethernet adapter
- if you can see the Ethernet Adapter and it has a green icon beside it, it should be working fine, you can also double click on it, to view the Status
- if you don't see the Ethernet Adapter on the list, look under the section "Other Devices", if you see an "Ethernet Controller" on the list with a yellow exclamation point, it means the drivers for the Ethernet Adapter were not installed, which means the drivers has to be re-installed
- you need the manufacturer cd for the drivers

*Now if there's no "Ethernet Controller" on Other Devices section, it's possible the Ethernet card is not being detected by the computer
- you may have to unplug the Ethernet card physically from the computer (computer must be completely turned off) then try to insert the Ethernet card again and boot up the computer, if the computer detects the Ethernet card, you need to install the drivers
- If the computer doesn't detect the Ethernet card, most probably it's busted. You may have to replace it.. You can also try to install the Ethernet card on a different computer just to check if it's really the Ethernet card or the motherboard that's the problem..

I don't like VISTA!!!!!!!!!!!1

Ok, you need to put a new Op system on the computer, (I assume you want XP) If you have an older HP computer that came with XP on it, you probably already have the discs

Now keep in mind, you will probably have to go online and get the drivers for a lot of your hardware (modem/ethernet port, wireless card, maybe even your touch mouse)
