Dear Sir/Madame, I have an Ariston four and the symbol f12 is showing on the electronic screen. The gas and placks are still working though. I disconnected the power four at least an hour but then the symbol cam back, Would you know what could be causing this and how I can fix it? Many thanks, Cordially, PW

I have not found a manual to download for your model of Ariston oven. The Ariston website does have manuals which can be downloaded, but your older model is not listed:

Most likely the company holds a copy of a user manual for your model in its archives. If it does, there may be a charge to make a copy of the manual and send it to you.

There are a few reasons for this. One is the most obvious and that is the child lock switch needs to be engaged to unlock.Some models call it panel lock.
Turning the panel lock on and off:
To turn the panel lock on, press and hold the Panel Lock key for four seconds. The Panel Lock symbol will appear in the display.
To turn the panel lock off, press and hold the Panel Lock key for four seconds. The message in the display will disappear.

We had the same problem when our cleaner rubbed off the markings. Ariston "customer services" were very unhelpful (the model is now so old they don't offer any replacement facias for it) but managed to get replacement stickers from Mark at
http://www.ovenlettering.co.uk/. They come with a diagram for all four dials showing where they should go and are very easy to apply. Would highly recommend.

This is a normal feature for this brand. The decal comes off when cleaning with anything other than pure water. They will sell you a whole new oven front for about $100 so you can do it again next time you wipe down the front panel when cleaning your work top. Please complain to Ariston head office and tell them what you think of their product. The manual doesn't show the detail so I guess you will have to buy either a proper oven or get ripped off by Ariston for a new panel ( you could always send the new panel back after copying the letters). I'll never buy an Ariston product again.
