Optoma ES522 DLP Projector Logo
Posted on Dec 20, 2010

My Optoma ES522 keeps blinking all the colors of the rainbow and then going to grey. I have to turn it off four hours to even get it to start up again and then sometimes within minutes it happens again. What is going on, and how do i fix it? How much will it cost? And the project is now telling my lamp is at the end of it's useful life. How much will it cost to replace that?

It seems that's the color wheel problem. You can fix this by your own. Probably the dust covered the color wheel sensor so it doesn't spin at specific speed.

And the project is now telling my lamp is at the end of it's useful life. How much will it cost to replace that?

You can switch off lamp reminder in OSD menu settings. This reminder is usually set to approx. 1200+ hours. When you exceed this limit, reminder starts to pop up. Actually it doesn't tell anything about PJ's lamp condition. So that doesn't mean that something is wrong with your lamp, maybe it lose some brightens, which is typical phenomena wheen exceeding half of lamps lifetime.

GENUINE new lamp costs around 160-180€, COMPATIBLE COPY should cost around 100€ +

Same thing here, same model.
When not turning on, just unplug the cord for a few seconds and then plug it in again, It will work. However, it will still be flickering after a few minutes or even seconds..

Why would my projector refuse to start with a seemingly intact light bulb?

If you only have 300 hours on it it should still be under warranty. Before doing something to void that I would check with Optoma techs.

Optoma HD80 flashing blue lights

Sound like the original color wheel for Optoma HD80 is bad.

If the unit has been moved when hot.

If not, try un-plugging the unit for a few minutes and re-connect.

Hope this helps

Rainbow stripes and color changing gradient box

Since this is a problem that obviously occured because the laptop fell and the LCD got damaged I suggest you take it to a repair shop, if it can even be repaired.

Optoma H30 Projector: color banding

Most DLP projectors have a colour wheel. It's usually hard to get at, and you may have to actually remove everything including the optical block from the projector to access it. This wheel turns on a motor just like a fan, and if it gets dirty it can act up just like a fan.

They are expensive to replace, so you might want to try taking it apart and cleaning it out. Add a small amount of 3 in 1 oil to the motor if you can.
