This is mainly because Windows has dropped its support to provide Windows Media Player's built-in DVD codec.
This issue can be easily solved by installing the DVD codecs to make Windows Media Player play DVD.

Or you can download another piece of DVD player that can play DVD directly such as Leawo Blu-ray Player which is a popular DVD and Blu-ray player program.
I believ you can find a decoder at filehippo.com Keep in mind that DVD burning software will work even if you don't have a burner, just delet the icon from the desk top for burning, your media play will use the decoder in it. The burning software has a decoder in order to read then burn.
