I think that the problem is being caused by your actual DS not the battery. The DS might not be transmitting the power to the battery . Id return your DS and get a new one or get your money back :-)

You can try buying another battery, or by buying a charging station that could just charge your battery (incase its the charger port on the ds thats broken).
Does the charge light flash on for a second when you plug in the charger? Does the ds fail to turn on? If so it is probably a blown fuse you can repair this. Check out video Good luck
( times out of 10 here its the battery if by replacing the battery it still does not charge you got a bad charging unit inside the DS and your repair bill will be under $75 bucks to replace the chargin element inside.

Find a friend that has a DS and try using their battery and charger to troubleshoot your hardware. If your battery and charger work with another DS, then you may have a problem with your DS motherboard.
What is the orange charging light doing? If it is just flashing on, or only staying on or a minuet, that means you need a new battery. The orange light foes on when the battery has been charged to its maximum capacity. After each charge, the capacity is decreased. So if the orange light is on for only a short time, get a new battery.
try to charge it with another battery,if that does not solve the problem then there is a blown fuse inside the board.its besibe the battery terminal to the right.but first you have to open the unit using a triwing screwdriver and a small precision phillips screwdriver.
check for damage to the small pins where the charger plugs into the DS, it may just not be getting a good contact. If they are ok then perhaps the charger is blown and therefore the internal battery in the DS will be dead.
Either find someone with another DS and try a different charger or try your charger on theirs to rule out if yours is broke.
i also had same problem and gameathlon solved it wow you can buy it here http://www.gameathlon.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=Nintendo+ds+battery&x=0&y=0
When I hooked up my DS with the charger the orange light would flicker for only a few seconds then turn off.
I found out that if you KEEP THE DS ON WHILE HOOKED UP the DS will charge. Although, because you are playing/DS is on the charging will go extremely slowly.
Best option, and what I did, was was just return/exchange it. I just did that today.
