I have a cal spa 9000. The main pump is cycling on/off and the safety suction light is on. The filters are clean and the intakes are unobstructed. Any ideas?

SOURCE: Bought 2002 Cal Spa and the motor starts and stops repeatedly

It sounds like the motor is running to hot and cutting itself off as a safety. Make sure that the wiring is correct, and if it is you may need to replace the bearings (if the motor is running very loud or making a grinding sound). or you may just have to replace the motor.

It could also be a problem with the control panel. Do you hear the relay click on and off with the pump?

Check the voltage at the back of the motor with a voltmeter and make sure that it is 110vac and that it is there throughout the cycle.

SOURCE: intake to filter has little suction

Hello,
If you are still looking for some solutions, here they are.
Start by plugging both your out put and input in the pool
or simply close the plungers
If you are uncertain the flow sensor is ok then blast it out with the garden hose. Make sure it swings freely
now take out your cartridge and blast it too
now remove your hose from the inlet to the pump
even though you may be skimming and things go in the basket hair still gets through and cloggs up in front of the filter
this also will happen with out a skimmer
Put it all back together and now open the top bleeder on the cartridge cover
open outlet side hose first
when water starts comong out the bleeder open the inlet hose
now turn on pump for 30 seconds and then close the bleeder
This should do it
Please remeber to rate this solution

I have an Easy Set and using a skimmer. Should I remove the extra intake hose?

Huh?
i am confused... What does a hose have to do with the ability of the pump to move water?

Suction of a pump has nothing to do with an extra hose.
Suction ability has everything to do with whether a filter element is clean or dirty!
These toy pumps have an exceptionally SMALL filter, and need cleaning or replacement OFTEN!
The suction action of a pump should not change, with the attachment of a skimmer: unless... The skimmer is higher than it should be and sucks air, therefore the pump will lose prime!
If you comment back with a little more detail, somebody will be glad to assist.

How do I remove elbo/check valve on ec65. Seems to be really stuck on.

the main drain should be on suction side of pool system (unless it was converted to be a return for safety reasons) since it is on the suction side of system, it is impossible to have DE entering pool at this point.

Has no suction

The intake, filter, or impeller may be blocked. Make sure the filters are clean, and intake pipe has nothing jammed in it. Also when trying to get it going, make sure the pump is well primed, which means the intake water level must be as high as possible, and the skimmer box and intake filter basket must be full of water.

Weak return, weak suction when vacuuming

It may be the hose going from the pool to the pump intake is partially clogged. I had the same problem,, removed the hose and shoved a broom handle through it to remove tree debris.

The pump is running but the filter is not staying full of water (I call it short cycling)

YOU HAVE A RESTRICTION ,OR A BAD JANDY VALVE. TRY MOVING THE VALVE ON THE SUCTION LINE, SEE IF IT INCREASES, ALSO TAKE ALL OF THE STUFF OUT OF THE SKIMMER, SO IT HAS UNOBSTRUCTED FLOW. GIVE THAT A TRY ..JAY

What is the round filter like attachment with tons of little holes on the inside my tub and how do i clean it

It is called the suction intake- the pump sucks the water in through the suction intake. It serves as a hair and particle trap (safety device). Some suction intakes can be unscrewed counter-clockwise, others have a round cover that can be popped off with a flathead screwdriver (the cover conceals a philips head screw).

Heeeelp! How to hook up hoses on Sundance spa

There is a skimmer in the side of your tub( the part that skimms water off the top ) and what is called a main drain or a better tearm is deep suction that pulls water from the bottom of the tub and helps collect heavy dirt from in the tub these two lines ( three if there is more than one main drain) These will all come together and then hook to the front of the pump. If your filter is under the skimmer basket the top of the pump will go to the heater and then back to the spa. If your filter in not under the skimmre basket then it will come after the pump then on to the heater. So in answer to your second question, the front of the pump draws the water in and the top pushes the water out. But make sure that your heater is last in line so it only deals with clean water and it will not run on the suction side of the pump as it need water pressure in it to start and contious flow to keep it from over heating. Hope this helps.
