Reinstalled Windows XP on an old computer (DELL Dimension 2400) and the monitor won't display above basic resolution. Downloaded and reinstalled the monitor driver and still no good. Opened up START

According to the Dell Support web site the Dell Dimension 2400 has a built in Intel 3D extreme graphics adapter, assuming you are using this and not a PCI graphics card.

Go to the Intel Download Centre and run their Intel Driver Update Utility which will automatically scan your system for updated drivers for any installed or integrated Intel devices.

If the Intel Utility identifies an updated driver for your graphics adapter then download and install that which should enable you to configure a higher resolution for your display.

Need driver download have new tower and lost CD for monitor X2GEN model MG19MY

Most monitors do not need additional drivers for them to function properly in Windows XP, Vista, and 7. If you are not able to set the monitors native resolution then look at your video card drivers. If these are not up to date, then you can see some very odd default resolutions.

Was the monitor recognized properly by the video driver?

Go to Display Properties, settings, advanced, monitor and see if Plug and Play monitor is installed. All modern graphics cards talk to the monitor to discover it's capabilities and should adjust the available resolutions so that the monitor's native resolution is available for choosing.
If some other monitor is listed there, change it to Plug and Play monitor. If still having troubles, you can do two things:
- update the video driver for your graphics card
- find the monitor's .inf file (it should be on a CD that comes with the monitor, or can be downloaded from DELL site), and install this instead of the Plug and Play monitor or whatever you have in your monitor setup (as above, go to monitor - properties - update driver).

Windows 7 will not allow me to pick 1680x1050 for the resolution. It defaults to a lower resolution with no option to take it higher.

Go to Windows 7 web site and check the equipment compatability list for your monitor.

If it is there - read the particulars

If it is not, complain to the monitor manufacturer - ask them to create a driver for this model.

I hope this helps you

Monitor rejects computer

I'm just guessing, but it could be that the resolution you are using on your MS-DOS monitor is not compliant with the new monitor you are trying to use. Check the supported resolutions of the monitor that you would like to use, and then make sure you set that resolution before switching monitors.

Extended monitor resolution issues with gma 950 inspiron 6400 e1505

I've ran into similar problems with monitors before. Turns out that some monitors need their own driver installed in order to work with the video card, and, ?guess what?, they don't come with them. I usually find them at the manufacturer's site or driverguide.com Hope this helps, if not get back to me with the make and model and I'll do some research.

Screen Resolution

are you sure you have connected a graphics card. If so you dont need any driver because the graphics card depending on the model has already the necessary driver included just like when you first bought your motherboard.

Now, if your're only using the onboard graphics( that is the graphics card of the motherboard itself), you have to check whether the graphics supports resolution higher than 640x800. On board graphics, as far as i know contains only the necessary that will output on your screen, it means the resolution should not go much higher. But, you still have to check.

For assurance and for the best picture you wanted to have(probably your'e playing high resoulution games), I suggest that you buy the necessary graphics card that is supported by the games. Example of such brand is inno3d series.

My monitor is stuck in the lowest resolution

Distorted video after increasing the resolution in Windows. The resolution has been set higher than what is supported by the monitor, ... we recommend 640 x 480 with 256 colors or the lowest available setting.
Computer always boots into Windows safe mode. When booting into safe mode, the lowest settings are used, including your video card. This means that the resolution is 640x480, 16 colors when in safe mode.
