Gateway GT5622 PC Desktop Logo
Posted on Dec 19, 2010

I have a Gateway GT5622. When I boot the computer, I am taken to a Windows Error Recovery Screen. The following is displayed on screen --------------------------------------------------------------------- Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose Start windows Normally. Launch startup repair (recommended) Start windows normally --------------------------------------------------------------------- Launch startup repair - This option just makes the monitor go black and nothing more. At this point, I just press the power button to turn it off. Start windows normally - Windows tries to start but I'm redirected back to the Windows Error Recovery screen. Another interesting thing is that the graphics are slightly distorted. For example, the top portion of some words shifted to the left. This is so upon the boot up screen (the screen where the Gateway logo is displayed) and the screen which comes up when you press any of the options available displayed while on said boot up screen. However, this shift in graphics is not apparent in the Windows Error Recovery screen. The only significant cause I can think of for this malfunction is that my father while my father was using a program, the computer froze. He said he tried to CTRL+ALT+DEL but with no luck. From there, he turned of the power surge protector. The link below takes you to the product specification page of the Gateway GT5622. http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/R/1014733R/1014733Rsp2.shtml

How to make a recovery disk for a gt5622 vista

Restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

If done properly the user should get to a screen similar to the below screen.

Select the option for Safe mode command prompt only

    Windows Advanced Options Menu
    Please select an option:

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Enable Boot Logging
    Enable VGA mode
Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
    Debugging Mode

    Start Windows Normally
    Reboot
    Return to OS Choices Menu

Use the up and down arrow keys to move the highlight to your choice.

Select safe mode with command prompt then type in chkdsk/f/r which will scan for and and attempt repair of bad files and bad sectors on hard drive

You should have no input while chkdsk utility is in progress any input might further damage your computer also

Use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to determine which file is causing the issue and then replace the file.

Type the following command and then press ENTER: sfc /scannow The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

We have a Gateway Laptop running on Vista. Turned it on this morning and got the "blue screen of death" that said it had a Fatal Error KnownDLL 000021a and a bunch of other numbers. We read that...

Just press and hold F8 on startup (before the Windows logo appears). You should get the screen with the title Advanced Boot Options and the following menu. (which I get on my Gateway NV5915h)

Choose Advanced Options for: Vista (Windows 7 on my Gateway NV5915h)
(Use the arrow keys to highlight your choice.)

    Repair Your Computer

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Enable Boot Logging
    Enable low-resolution video (640x480)
    Last Known Good Configuration (advanced)
    Directory Services Restore Mode
    Debugging Mode
Disable automatic restart on system failure
    Disable Driver Signature Enforcement

    Start Windows Normally

Description: View a list of system recovery tools you can use to repair
startup problems, run diagnostics, or restore your system.

    ENTER=Choose ESC=Cancel

Computer will power up but not boot. Screen remains black. Battery charges.

If the screen's backlight doesn't come on at all, that's a new screen. You can find more from Gateway's support website. If the screen lights up but stays completely black, that's a motherboard issue, same fix. If the Gateway logo comes up but never goes into windows, that's most likely a hard drive issue, same fix. If you see an error message from Windows, that's a Windows issue. You could use the recovery DVDs that came with the system to fix that. Just put them in and turn the computer on. Press F8 repeatedly until you see an option to boot to DVD. Then follow the instructions.

When my gateway MT6705 tries to boot, blue screen

Many times this error occurs when I have swapped a hard drive and used the wrong IDE cable to connect it. If your computer uses an Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) hard disk controller, and you use a standard 40-wire connector cable to connect the UDMA drive, you may experience this error. Make sure you are using the correct IDE cable.

Also, if your BIOS settings are configured to force the faster UDMA modes, this error may occur. In this situation, restart your computer and enter the BIOS and load the "fail-safe" default settings and reboot.

If neither of these issues are the cause for the Unmountable Boot Volume, then the issue most likely is caused by a damaged BOOT.INI file in the root directory of the boot drive or file system corruption.

Follow the steps below to correct these file system issues:

    1) Start your computer with your Windows XP CD-ROM, or with Windows XP boot disks
    2) When the Welcome to Setup screen appears, press R to Repair the installation using the Recovery Console
    3) If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot computer, select the Windows installation you want to access
    4) Type the administrator password when you are prompted, if no administrator password is set then just press Enter
    5) At the command prompt, type CHKDSK /R and then press Enter
    6) Once CHKDSK has finished checking and repairing the hard drive, type EXIT and press Enter to restart your computer
