I am trying to change the belt on a Hoover legacy dirt finder. I cannot figure out how to get to the inside pulley where the belt hooks.

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. The Hoover legacy belt change can either be changed from the bottom of the vacuum by either taking out the screws, clips or levers, and then you can remove the bottom plate or the top cover, what ever the case might be. Then you can cut off the old belt and then guide the new belt onto the motor pulley by using a long nose pliers or a screwdriver; if it is hard to reach and then take the brushroll and slide it inside of the belt and then pull back until the brushroll will fit into the brushroll holder, then you can replace the top cover or the bottom plate and reverse the procedure that you did to change the belt. So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.

Hoover Windtunnel Anniversary Self Propelled U6485-900 Embedded dirt finder not working.

The sensor is dirty. The next time you change the bag, leave it off and the cover as well. Plug the sweeper in and turn it on for a few seconds. The lights should blink then run steady. This is the best way to blow out dust. It should be done outside.

HOW TO mAKE BRUSHES SPIN

Check for broken belts, or belts that have been thrown off the pullys.
I use the websites that sell parts to see what is inside stuff, and download the users (owners) manual and read it.
Try Sears Parts Direct or the Parts Store (Google those names) for diagrams to see what belts or whatever it uses. If you can't understand the diagrams, find almost any 10-year-old. They seem to be incredibly clever, but then they have nothing else to do except try and figure stuff out.

Hoover wind tunnel the red light dirt finder stays on

There's a microphone inside the tube the dirt runs up. It listens for dirt coming up the tube. They just go bad and there's no making it better. You can either replace that entire assembly or ignore it. Fairly easy to replace. I'll include the part so you know what you're looking at.
Good luck! The Vac Dr.

My Hoover Dirt Finder red light stays on. All

Inspection of the circuit board found that the 470uF capacitor looked damaged. I replaced it and I now have the Green and Red lights are working correctly.

Dirt finder sensor stopped working

I had the same problem with a hoover windtunnel 6200 - u5477-900. I removed the flexible hose from top of the plastic tube running vertically along the right side of the back of the vacuum. When I used a flashlight to look into the plastic tube, I could see a clog at the bottom, where the flexible hose curved frontwards towards the brushes. I then removed the 2 screws holding the vertical plastic tube to the vacuum. When I disconnected the plastic tube from the flexible hose at the bottom, I found a clog of dirt and dog hair. After removing the clog and reassembling, the clean / dirty light now moves back and forth from red to green.

Dirt finder

The sensor may be bad, or it may be coated over with dirt. Re,ove the hose at the back of the vacuum, the head of the sensor is down inside that opening, reach in there and clean it off and see it that corrects the problem, if not replace the sensor.

Hoover U5450900

On the back, take the hose off, inside the duct you can see a disc,(it is on the bottom of the duct) it may be filmed over with dirt, that is the sensor, clean it off then try again. If it still comes on, then it may be bad or you have a clog in the hose or the dirt inlet by the brush roll.
