EXTENSA 4420 DVD-RW WON'T BURN DVDS

A few days ago my dvd-rw quit burning dvds, first saying disk was bad. I have used various brands of both DVD- and DVD+. Now it will go up to 93% and then eject the dvd with message that there was an error. The options offered are useless.

This could be a glitch with your burning software. Try removing and reinstalling it, or using a different software. The other possibility is the drive, occassionally with a CD/DVD combo drive the DVD reader or burner will fail, leaving the CD end working.

DOES NOT BURN CERTAIN TYPE OF DVDS

If it is a cd-rw, as you've indicated above, it will not burn DVD's. The front of the burner will list what it can burn. For instance, my machine says DVD-+RW, which means that it can burn to both + and - DVD's, but it cannot do Dual-Layer (DL) DVD.

My dvdr/rw wont burn dvds properly

There are many reason for this.Try following steps to look out for solution.

1>Use better quality Dvd to burn .DVDs are just a few cents worth of plastic, manufactured in massive quantities. Sometimes you end up with a bad disk or a bad batch. Try a new disk, or a whole new brand, and you may have more luck burning your DVDs

2>Dust in your DVD burner can prevent it from burning DVDs correctly. Buy a lens cleaning disk and use it in your DVD burner drive. This can clean things up and give you a clean, successful burn.

3>For better quality burn at slow speed. It’s always tempting to burn DVDs at the highest speed possible. In theory, you’ll save time and can get more DVDs burned. In practice, though, higher speeds can result in unreliable burns.
Slow things down and set your DVDs to burn at 4x or even 2x. This may eliminate errors.
I hope this will solve your problem.

I can burn cd's but not dvd's

Hello Rfd832,
What I see from the description is that the drive is a combo drive. Combo drives are CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives means
CD-RW = Compact Disk-Read Write
DVD-ROM = Digital Versatile Disk - Read Only Memory
so these drives can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs (Cannot write or burn DVDs)
If you want to be able to burn DVDs then you need to have DVD RW drive (either DVD+RW or DVD-RW)

You said that you are able to burn DVDs on other computer so please check the label on the DVD drive.. it should be DVD-RW/DVD+RW drive

Hope that helps.. :)

Thanks and Regards,
Srinivas

What type of DVD do I need to use with this computer inorder to burn a DVD? Does it have to be a rewriteable disc?

Hi Mark here.

Yes you will need DVD-R (or) DVD+R to burn a DVD these are single burn only, once there written you cannot erase them.

DVD-RW & DVD+RW are rewritable and can be used multiple times.

Also check your drive it should say on front what disk it can use some will not burn different DVDs and others will burn all.

Hope this fixed ya! Pleas rate. Good Luck! Need more help comment back.

Why my [sony cd rw dvd rom] will not detect a blank dvd disk

If you have the sony CD RW DVD ROM then you can't burn the data in a blank DVD.

Because your Configuration is :
Read : CD / DVD
Write : CD

This means you have a combo drive. But to burn a DVD you should have DVD RW.

I can't finalize a DVD on my Acer Extensa 4420. I follow the instructions, but the DVD is only readable in my Extensa, not in any other system.

Have you got a dvd/rw drive or dvd rom drive,

A DVD/RW drive will write DVDs
A DVD Rom Drvie will only read DVDs

If its a DVD/RW then remove device and reinstall

if you need more info please tell me what OS your using and make and model of your machine or pc

Thanks for your request.
