Hi, have a cruzer titanium 8gb. Had it for over a year and been OK. Now just sits in the USB port & flashes about 8 times, pauses and the just repeats the flashing. Tried to open from 'my computer'...

You have lost all the data as it is. Unfortunately, you may have pulled the cruzer from the usb port by hand without using the EJECT Format. You should always EJECT a USB Dongle first to avoid STATIC Charge. Static erases the formatted device and washes away all data. In the Winter this condition is more active than when humidity is high. In many cases, the drive can not be formatted again.

My U3 Smart SanDisk Cruzer Micro 2.0GB USB Drive Not Recognized

We can fix it -- and recover the data (provided it is recoverable -- which it generally is). If we don't get your data back, we ship the drive back to you and you pay nothing. We've been recovering data for over 16 years and are successful about 85% of the time.

I'm guessing you are using a Mac, so you will need a friend's computer with Windows XP or later. Go here for the U3 Launchpad Removal Tool, or Google 'sandisk u3 removal'. The CD image is a hidden partition used by the U3 LaunchPad.

SanDisk 1GB Cruzer Titanium USB Flash Drive - device not recognised

I've had this same problem with a number of Cruzer Titaniums. In my case, it seemed to have been due to data corruption. There seems to a section of the flash that is dedicated not to storage but to helping the computer recognize the device. Once this gets trashed, I don't know of a way that the end user can fix the problem. What a waste, because in all other aspects the device is probably still ok. Kind of like a PC with a corrupted BIOS image.
