Wire size is based on breaker size. 2 gauge copper is rated at 100A max. No smaller than 2 gauge.

It is always good to install a large enough wire where the maximum load can be drawn plus a little extra for safety. 7 gauge wire will do, if it was mine I would use 6 gauge wire. If the length is over 20 feet but not longer than 80 feet go to the next larger size wire.

What size wire to hook up a 15kw generator to my house

At 240v, a 15KW generator will produce appx 62A or 31A per 120V leg. Therefore allowing for some overload, a conductor sized for 35A per leg would be adequate, but you should verify local code requirements.

The battery could be bad. Try to measure the battery voltage when you try to start. If the battery is bad then the voltage will drop quite low when the battery is loaded with trying to start the set. If you can borrow a similar battery you could just try with it.

You need to pull in two yellow wires called N1 N2 for sensing 220v. One red and one white called 23 and 194 those are your 12vdc transfer wires. And then last of all your 12vdc from battery charger. Hope this helps

Sounds like the electritian wired something wrong. Control wiring for that generator should be:
N1 and N2 = 240 vac utility input
Wire 0 = ground
Wire 194 (15B) = + battery
wire 23 = transfer signal

Generac Guardian 15kW Generator

That sounds just about right, if the relay contacts get welded together it sometimes takes out the driver on the printed circuit board. As you found out, 12vdc from 23 to 194 makes the transfer switch move to the Generator position, relay not energized makes the ATS move to the Normal position.

You can make a nice test function by installing a 10 amp contact switch in series with either the N1 or N2 terminals. When the switch is open the generator thinks the Normal power has failed.

Carl
