Sony SCD-CE595 5-Disc CD Player. Shows TOC disc error message after setting up system. I unhooked the machine to move it. Set it up again, checked all connections - they are correct, and now it will not play discs. How do I fix it?

Welcome to Fixya

Sounds like the lens stopped reading the disc. Try to clean the lens by using CD cleaner.

SONY MDS JE 530. (C14) Toc error.

You may well be right. Try a different brand of disc.

SONY MDS JE 530. (C14) Toc error.

Your owners manual (you DID read your owners manual, right?) says the machine cannot read the TOC on the disc.

It might be a disc problem and it might be a deck problem?

Have you tried a different minidisc?

Have you changed any of the SET-UP settings? Take a look at them, too.

Toc error 14

On questions like this it would help if we knew the manual was or was not consulted.

And if it was NOT, why.

C14 / TOC Error The unit did not read the TOC information. Insert other discs.

http://www.cdrfaq.org/faq02.html#S2-19

[Extract]

"If you write data to a disc and leave the session open, the TOC -- which tells the CD player or CD-ROM drive where the tracks are -- is written into a separate area called the Program Memory Area, or PMA. CD recorders are the only devices that know to look at the PMA, which is why you can't see data in an open session on a standard playback device. CD players won't find any audio tracks, and CD-ROM drives won't see a data track. When the session is finalized, the TOC is written in the lead-in area, enabling other devices to recognize the disc.
(Something to try: write an audio track to a blank CD, and leave the session open. Put the disc in a CD player. Some players will deny the existence of the disc, some will spin the disc up to an incredible speed and won't even brake the spindle when you eject the disc, others will perform equally random acts. The TOC is important!)"

Sony cmt-cp33md,place dic in machine, toc reading shows read error C13,then ejects disc.

The c13 error means that the player is unable to read the table of contents (TOC) on discs any more. If it's an occasional error then you can try switching to TDK blanks as they seem to be easier for flaky players to read, but if it's happening regularly to all discs then your machine is unrepairable due to a total lack of spare parts.

On the plus side, there are millions of MD units now lying unused as folks have moved on from them and as they're mostly worthless people don't generally bother with trying to sell them. Almost every piece of MD gear I own has come free of charge via my local FreeCycle and Freegle groups. Whatever you do, don't buy a used player from anyone: they're all getting on now and the TOC error is an age-related fault which may occur at any time.

If you wish to see exactly what features other machines have then visit the superb equipment browser at minidisc.org. The site is hosted but n longer maintained though so some information is out of date, but it's still the most comprehensive source of free information about MD available.

Sorry here's probably no hope for your player, but I hope that my reply has given you a practical alternative means of solving your problem.

Ive just got a mini disk player and its comeing up toc error, can you help me please

Probably not. There are various reasons that TOC errors occur, some are fixable and others not, but Sharp MD units were really known to suffer from them for multiple reasons all at once. TOC means Table Of Contents; it's an index file on the disc which tells the host machine where everything on the disc is located and the TOC is modified whenever you edit a disc. Sometimes the file gets corrupted, but often the machine itself simply becomes unable to read the disc and as the TOC is the first thing it tries to read then you get a TOC error.

If you're lucky the TOC error is limited to a single minidisc; if this is the case then it's just one faulty disc and although there are ways to perform TOC cloning they usually involve hacking the host machine in various ways which may cause permanent damage. Unless the disc is important, just chuck it away and use a new one. If the fault is with the player then again, just chuck it into the nearest electronic waste recycling bin. Spares are not available, and as it's a Sharp, diagnosis will be difficult and the fault likely to return.

Many MD players are practically worthless these days so they're often available on FreeCycle and Freegle groups: Sony are the preferred choice by far, and are also the most commonly offered brand, but take whatever is on offer without complaint and worry about problems later; after all, they are free.
