NO OS STATED is this XP?????
the OS is corrupted, some way, or drivers.
here are the possibles.
i cant see it so here goes,
is there a sound card inside the PC? in a PCI slot.???
or only the onboard sound there.
is this with external speakers. or USB phones
USB phones, load a 2nd sound chip that cases the onboard to fight with the USB chip ,if not setup very very carefully , ask.
all assume external speakers ,. and no Sound cards in the PCI slots.
1: OS corruption reload load it (or infected is #1 )
2: or the sound driver is corrupted or wrong one, install it fresh from HP. only from HP.
here is your support page
ever see this, this is #1 most imporant.
this PC came new with, 6 different OS new.
32bit or 64bit windows
XP, VISTA or W7
i can not guess yours.
but if your PC is not slammed with wrong OS then these all work
if you go there, and tell it your OS>
you see drivers, see sound? driver audio . see that?
i looked at Vista 32.
the chips there is called Realtek..
if you placed mp3 file on the hdd in folder (test)
then ran say, this small player first
and if that fails, we know know the OS is messed up.
do a full virus sweep first, then malwarebytes free.
reload the realtek driver yet?
and would have saved buying new hardware.
if the file cant play the OS is messed up on MP3, file.
or a wave file
there are other causes, bad hdd, too.
id bet its not the Sound chip bad !
only OS bad. (infected, drivers wrong, or bad player, or OS corruption of any kind)
