There a few different types of folds that a paper folder can do. All the different kinds of folds can be found on this site. Before you get excited about all the different folding options that are available you want to make sure that your folding machine is capable of doing those folds.

Most higher end folding machines are able to fold most standard size sheets of paper. You would have to check the manual or with the maker before trying anything too fancy. Mine works great with A4 and standard 8.5 x 11" papers.

These are great because you can choose what type of fold you want. You can choose between all different folds on the control panel. Lots of folding typesare already programmed into the machine. These machines are very efficient and can fold 18000 letters/hour.

This is a machine that folds papers or letters instead of you folding them all by hand. It can fold statements, invoices, brochures, etc. It's really useful for businesses. It can fold about 1800-18000 papers in a single hour.

Here is the link to the instruction book for that calculator. It describes how to install the paper into the machine. The only thing I could recommend different is to fold the lead edge of the paper to a 45 degree angle /| instead of the straight edge the book is recommending. Sometimes there is a small blockage in the feed path and the angled fold will get the lead edge passed it enough for the feed rollers to catch the paper. The blockage usually feeds out with when the edge of the paper clears the rollers. I would try it by the book first then try the folded edge. The only other option would be a middle fold /\ in case the blockage is on the edge you folded from in the first attempt

for the 8.5x11 paper to staple the paper has to loaded in the machine with the short edge of the paper fed first so if the paper is turned the wrong way in the paper tray the machine will reject the fold command it should say on the paper type setting 8.5x11R

Is this paper the same weight/thickness as the white paper?
Are you specifying the settings properly as far as the weight and type?
It sounds like the sensors are detecting a double feed(?)
Try different settings for the tray, and even try a different brand of stock to verify.

Not sure what make / model you have but folders are pretty much the same. The issue with the paper feed is your retarder, also known as the paper seperator. On the feed table where you load paper there should be a pad or rubber wheel. Look for an adjustment screw. You need to close the gap enough so that it only takes one sheet at a time. The extra fold sounds like you need to adjust the fold plate stop positions just a hair. If you give me the make and model I should be able to email you a manual.
