The EH40 works just fine for 1-2 days, then all suddenly it resets itself and lost all settings and the display comes back to 12:00. I noticed the problem happens exactly when switching from OFF to ON event. I can hear the switch and the red led flashes quickly, but it stays off. Battery is good, all look fine. Any clue ? bad circuit ? Thanks,

I have the same problem. It works well for a day. Later it shows like it has been reset. No configuration or time set is found.

I have a timer that won't hold the program time set schedule? I have paid an electrician to come out and check to make sure i don't have any shorted out wires?? Electrician didn't find any...

Question posted under 120volt Intermatic Eh10 timer.
I do not have repairs for defective timer.
EH10 has 1 year limited warranty.

Located just below the digital display is compartment for AA battery.
Display is controlled by battery.
Replace battery, press and hold reset button for several seconds to reset timer, and try to program again.

http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/eh10-manual.pdf

EH10 and EH40 timers are susceptible to line noise.
If timer is connected to water heater, there is no line noise. And electrician tested for shorting wires.
But when timer is connected to fan, pump, or other type of load, then interference can be a problem.
Intermatic can provide a filter.

Digital timers, digital water heaters, digital washer and dryer, digital water softener, digital treadmill, etc are increasingly common, yet are not protected from surge.
People protect computers and TVs, but forget other costly items.
EH10 can be affected by surge.
Install whole house surge protection:

After 7 years working properly, the event button has stopped working. There is no way to start the load in manual, or to change the program... What can I do?

You posted under EH40 Intermatic programmable timer.
EH40 Manual:
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/eh40-manual.pdf

1) EH40 uses size A battery. Replace battery.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-EH40-hot-water-heater-timer.html#Battery
2) Reset the timer: Press and hold reset button for several seconds
3) Contact Intermatic because they are aware of specific problems with specific timers
http://www.intermatic.com/customer%20service.aspx
4) Other folk have reported EH40 and EH10 last about 3 years.
EH40 has 1 year limited warranty.
I test timers: 7 years is reasonable run for inexpensive electronic time switch.
5) For longer lasting timer, consider Next Generation: battery is replaced every 8 years

Timer loses program and time. Flashes wrong time. No power loss, already replaced battery. Any ideas? Jerry

1) Reset the timer.

Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't and timer has gone bad.
Manual for EH10
http://www.1000bulbs.com/pdf/Inter-EH10-EH40-Operating.pdf

2) Manual says:
"If the display
has scrambled information, check to be sure that
the polarity orientation of the battery is as shown on
the cover label, then press the RESET switch and hold
for at least two seconds."

3) If display shows, then contacts are good.
EH40 and EH10 have same battery carriage.

After working properly for 5 years my Intermatic eh40 stopped working. I had to by pass this unit and connect the power directly to the heater. Prior to bypassing the unit, I pressed the event button to...

The EH40 has size A battery located below the control buttons.
Pull down carriage and replace battery.
There are two metal connectors on either side of battery ... these connectors are kind of hard to get lined up when putting carriage back >> be careful not to bend.

My Intermaric EH40 does not work. The time display is blank and the load switch and on/off switch do not work. Is it completely shot?

You've lost power to the timer. Look in your main circuit breaker panel for a two-pole breaker that has tripped. Turn it to full OFF, then back ON.
Sometimes it hard to detect if a breaker has tripped, so turn it OFF, then ON anyway.
If that doesn't work it's possible that the circuit breaker is bad.

Wrong date on the radio.

RESETTING THE CLOCK AFTER A TOTAL MEMORY LOSS

If you do not change the built in lithium battery within a reasonable period of time after you see the ‘flashing’ LOW BATT. warning indicator, the lithium battery may become exhausted and will no longer be able to supply back up power to the SmartSet internal computer.

If the unit is disconnected from the AC outlet after the battery is exhausted, or if a power interruption occurs, the SmartSet memory will be lost and the clock will need to be reset when the power is restored. Be sure to install a fresh lithium battery before you reset the clock, otherwise the clock will need to be reset each time the power is interrupted.

If the lithium battery is exhausted and you experience an interruption in the AC power supply, the clock will reset itself to its initial default setting when the power is restored.

The initial default setting is “12:00 AM, Saturday, January 1
(1 1), 2005”.

If you notice that the time on your SmartSet clock radio is completely incorrect, and the day indicator is also wrong, press the MONTH/DATE button to see the date. If the date display is showing “1 1” (January 1 ), you probably experienced
a total memory loss. To reset the clock after a total memory loss, proceed as follows:

1.) Install a new CR2430 lithium battery in the battery compartment.

2.) Connect the radio to your AC outlet and let the clock set itself.

3.) Depress the MONTH/DATE and TIME buttons together. The display will change from ‘time’ to ‘year’. While holding the MONTH/DATE and TIME buttons, press the UP button to
set the display to the correct year, then release the buttons.

4.) Depress the MONTH/DATE button. The display will change from ‘time’ to 'month/date’ (mm/dd). While holding the MONTH/DATE button, press the UP button to set the display
to the correct month and date. The Day indicator will change automatically as you adjust the month/date settings. When the correct month and date appear on the display, release the buttons.

5.) Depress the TIME button and the UP button to set the display to the correct time. Be sure to confirm that you have set the time correctly to ‘AM’ or ‘PM’ by observing the AM indicator.

6.) After you set the time, reconfirm that the Day, and Month/Date displays are still correct. Make final adjustments if necessary.

The SmartSet clock memory is now reset and the new lithium battery will maintain it for the next 5 to 8 years, depending on the number and duration of the power outages you experience.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
After resetting the clock, don’t forget to reset your wake up times, and alarm mode settings, and sleep timer settings as well.
