Lines on copies

My canon imageclass D861 copier makes three thin lines on copies only when I use the automatic document feeder. I have used the automatic roller cleaner feature but it does not help.

  • Anonymous Mar 10, 2009

I have a line on my copy, only when I use the ADF. I've cleaned everything they say to clean, and if the machine were any cleaner it would disappear.

    Still get the line.

Is there something under the glass I can clean?

The lines are caused by some debris that is on the platen (the glass where you normally place the copies). The usual culprit is white-out smudges from a copy that wasn't completely dried yet. When you make copies using the feeder, the roller passes the paper being copied over a little section of the platen (if you pull up the feeder "lid", it'll be on the right-hand side of the big glass... it might even be marked with 2 green arrow stickers, but if not, it's the part of the glass directly under the roller of the feeder). You can just take an alcohol wipe or soak a cotton ball with alcohol or windex and wipe down that strip of glass under the roller.

The feeder scans the paper over the glass under the feeder. I use a razor blade to scrape any gunk on the right side of the glass. Then use windex on a cloth to wipe off residue.

There is a clean function on this machine that cleans the rollers. Go to additional function section on menu. Then use arrow keys to go to adjust/clean.Then press set and then use arrows to go to roller cleaning. Then press set again.

Black lines on copiers!!

Hi!!

If you are making copies on a machine that has a ADF (automatic document feeder)on and your copies come out with black lines on them, but when you make copies from the glass there are no lines on the copies then the small glass on the left, has a mark on it!What i do is put the copy with the black line on,on the glass face up so you can see the line, now, more or less where the black line is on the copy,is where you can look on the thin strip of glass to the left, for a mark or thin line!!Clean it with a damp cloth and no more lines!!

Enjoy!!

A vertical black line appear on each paper when the document feeder is used to make copies; such vertical line does not appear on papers when copying on the glass surface. How do I resolve this...?

Hello,
when you open the copier platen cover, left of the copy glass, there is small narrow glass, which is used when you make copies from ADF. Over that glass is plastic protective sheet. Remove it and clean, also clean the glass. Use glass detergent and after cleaning dry it!

Even the smallest dirt can cause lines!

Hope that helps!

When I copy papers on my Canon imageRunner 2800 there are 2black lines in the middle of the copied paper. How do i solve this problem?

Hello mike,
You may have a fairly easy problem to fix, and that's good thing ! If the lines only appear when you use the document feeder then we can handle this. Please place a document on the platen glass and make a copy. If the copy looks good then we need to clean your "scan" glass. The scan glass is the small glass located to the left of the large platen glass. It's about 3/4" by 14",and will only cause problems when you use the automatic doc feeder. If it gets dirty then thin lines will show up. If indeed this is the problem then I have a test u can use that will help you Take a plain piece of paper. Mentally divide it into 4 squares and then simply write the numbers 1,2,3,4 on each quadrant. At the top edge of your newly formed test document place an arrow pointing away from the body of the paper, and it needs to point "UP".. Now draw an arrow on the test document that points to the left "lead " edge. Put your newly constructed test target in the document feeder and make a copy of it. Now, you KNOW how you placed the test document, so lets look at the copy. If you have lines only thru the document feeder, then look at the copy you made and notice where the lines are. Ok, now you know where the lines show up on the copy, so lets take your "test" document and compare them side by side.Once you have made this comparison, and can see where the lines show up, take the ORIGINAL test document and place it IMAGE UP (1,2,3,4) on the glass. This will point out exactly where the dirt is. By looking at the copy that has lines, and where they show up on the page, you can use the test page that is laying face up on the glass and compare the 2. BOOM !! You can look towards the small scan glass and find the dirt that is causing the lines. With your copier, IF you place a document on the glass then the scanner moves to "scan" the document. But if you use the document feeder, the scanner stays in one spot and the motion of the document moving ACROSS the scanner and is scanned like a bar code. If there is dirt on the scan glass then a line occurs instead of a "blob" as you would see if you used the platen glass.I hope this all makes sense (I tend to ramble) and I hope it helps you. You of course could have far more complex problems. But your description of the problem sounded like my remedy/idea might be just what you need. Take care and good luck. if I helped you please let "fixya" know. SPINAL

What causes a line down the middle of copied pages

There is something on your scan glass. My guess is you are getting the line on your copies when you run the original through the document feeder. If you get lines through the document feeder but not on copies made off the glass then it is a dirty scan glass. There is a thin glass strip where the document feeder feeds the original. Usually something like white out that did not dry smears off an original and ends up on this thin strip of glass. Scratch it off with your finger nail and use some glass cleaner to resolve the problem. The scan glass is about 1/2 an inch to an inch wide and will be on the same side of the machine that the copier feeds the originals in on.

My copy machine is D 861 digita.when i make a copy

If you're using the automatic document feeder (ADF) to scan the document, make sure the ADF scanner area is very clean. This is the area of the platen glass to the right side. Also make sure that you don't have reduction set on the copy size.

Canon Imageclass D880 automatic document feeder problems

Hi,

Clean the ADF rollers and pad with alcohol.

Check to see if your ADF has done over 90 000 copies and if it has, change the ADF pick up assembly only.

Good Luck

Line appears on copies when using the automatic feeder.

You have a piece of dirt or whiteout on the scanner glass. When the paper is moving by, it creates a "Line" if the paper is sitting still on the glass, it may be a dot or it may even use a different glass alltogether for ADF vs Paltten scanning.

ADF has something on it causing a stripe on all copies

Lift the document feeder and clean the narrow glass, (next to the glass where you place your originals). Documents are scanned across this glass when automatic feeder is used, thus a small piece of dirt becomes a line down the page.

Are your copies face down in the feeder? can you make copier face down on the glass? Otherwise you have a bad scanner.
