I have a vermont castings electric fireplace model DEF36. When the blower comes on it trips the breaker circuit. The unit works fine until the blower comes on. Any idea where to start to fix the problem?

SOURCE: Electric Fireplace Insert

verify the breaker is on (reset) then power up and verify voltage with a meter, there are safty devices that will keep the unit from energizing other than the switch

SOURCE: I have an electric fire

I just repaired ours and it is quite simple,if it is the same type.First remove the front cover frame, then with a screw driver repove the clip at the top of glass, ease out the glass and lift up to remove.Remove the plastic logs and you look inside and you will see your burnt out lights, remove them, buy the same type and replace them, normally they are standard candleobra light that you can buy at any hardware store.

This house was built in 2003 with VERMONT casting gas fireplace #UVBR42. How do I light the pilot?

Possible instructions, but you may need to call for gas company if gas is off, or a technician to repair a 2003 fireplace.

Be patient in attempting to light it if electric, as it may take 3 or 4 tries, and you may smell gas and see a visible spark when lighting it.

Vermont casting fireplace vcef33

You could take a table lamp or a drop light a electric drill or anything similar, and see if you can unplug the insert and plug one of these items in and see if the plug works
I am taking for granted that you can get to the plug without having to pull the insert out or at least not all the way out
If you can't do that
Turn the breaker off to that circuit pull the switch out and make sure nothing is touching
Hook a tester to the wires and then turn the breaker on and see
If you have power to that switch turn the switch off and on watch the meter and see if it does turn on and off
If you have power coming out of the switch.
and you can't reach the plug then you only option would be to pull the insert
As for a fuse there may be one but not look like what you are thinking a fuse will look like it is usually a temperature fuse that is shaped similar to a diode the symbol for it can be two ways
it could have what looks like a c laying on its side upright and also another c beside it on its side aiming down like a snake crawling. The other symbol looks like a rocket with no fins on its side with a with a what looks like a T laid sideways coming off one end

Find spare and repair manual for intrepid wood stove

Alex, I don't know how old your Vermont Castings Intrepid wood stove is, but the only available Owner's Manual is for their fairly new model Intrepid II wood stove.

A little quick history. Vermont Castings was an independent company 10 years ago, that was bought up by Majestic (FMC) Fireplace Company of Canada. About 5 years ago, Majestic went belly up and the VC line was purchased by Monesson Hearth Products. There have been some improvements to their wood stoves in the past couple of years, so as to meet the new EPA Requirements. So, this manual may show some things your stove doesn't have.

Hope this helps you. Please let me know. Thanks.

Plug the new fan motor, nothing

Sounds as if the Fan Switch may also be faulty. Or the new fan motor is defective. Is the flame function on the electric fireplace working? If the flame function is working, than obviously the fault is either in the fan switch or the new fan motor.

If the motor has a regular receptacle type plug on the end of the cord, try plugging it directly to a wall outlet and see if it works. If you're able to do that, then the problem is in the fireplace's fan switch or in the wiring circuitry going to the fan motor. Perhaps, this is what was wrong all along and not the fan motor, itself.

If nothing is working, check the wall receptacle that the fireplace is plugged into, by plugging in an electric lamp. If the lamp won't turn on, then there's a circuit breaker tripped in your homes circuit breaker panel. Check the circuit breaker panel for a tripped breaker and with nothing plugged into the offending receptacle, reset the breaker. Plug the fireplace back into the receptacle, turn it on and see if it trips the circuit breaker. If it does, there's an electrical short some where in the fireplace. Look for burned or frayed wiring, as well as bad connections.

Hope this helps solve your problem.

Flame doesn't flicker

The "flicker" function in my unit operates with a system of rotating, reflective fins. The tiny, AC synchronous motor driving the fins failed and I got one one-line for cheap. A fairly simple R&R.

Only downside is the motor does not always start in the proper direction, but a start/stop or two resolves the issue.

Hi Jamil

To help you out a little bit the Company you need to go through is a Vermont Casting or a Majestic Dealership... Alot of companies will only help you if you have purchased from them.

If you have a problem? Is there anything I can help you with?
