My dishwasher is making a grinding sound when draining and i believe there could be something caught in the impeller, which is also stopping the water from draining completely. My dishwasher is making a grinding sound when - national_a_r_3.png
Its sounds like you are trying to take out the drain pump to clear the impeller of broken glass ect... Make sure your taking out he right one, because the drain motor is the small on one, the bigger pump is the circulation motor and if you disconnect that tube you will end up buying a new sump/pump assemble. The drain motor should have a clip that you push down and while turning the pump clockwise to take off. Once off you will be able to clean it out. Please look at my quick tip also for some common drain problem issues

My samsung dishwasher has a constant buzz that occurs during start up and lasts through all of the cycles. I saw where there is an electrical noise filter and did not know if that could be the cause.

No a noise filter is a different kettle of fish. That stops electrical interference noise from affecting your television, radios and electrical devices.

The most likely source of the hum is the start capacitor on the motor, or the motor itself.

This has a different idea

Humming or Grinding If your Samsung dishwasher makes noise when starting that sounds like a low hum, it's part of normal function. The motor makes this sound as it operates throughout the wash cycle. However, a dishwasher making loud humming noise or grinding sounds could mean that debris is caught in the drain pump.

Samsung Dishwasher Making Noise? Follow These Tips

This says the drain pump, but the drain pump only runs to empty out so it wouldn't do it all the time.

Why My Samsung DW7933 Series Dishwasher starts a wash cycle then makes series of beeps and stops with Quick ligt flashing?

That indicates a drain error. You may have something hard caught into the impeller of the drain pump, or your might have a bad ECS sensor causing that (false) error code.

I have a grinding noise when I first turn on my dishwasher what can I do to put this right

You've got something caught in the drain pump impeller blades. Remove the filter assembly on the inside bottom of your dishwasher and see if you can clear out the object stuck in the drain area.

Pro tip: Wet-vacs work wonders sucking out glass from drain pumps.

If you still can't clear it out, then you'll need to get under your dishwasher and remove the drain pump to clear out the debris.

Good luck!

Grinding sounds

Grinding sounds that last for longer than 3 minutes at a time are usually an indication of something in the wash pump. If the grinding is only for about 2 minutes at a time it would be something related to the drain pump.

It depends on the make and model on how to clean out the pump or drain pump. If you happen to have a tall tub Kitchen Aid, Whirlpool or Kenmore this link has instructions on how to do that.

Kenwood quiet guard dishwasher just started making a LOUD vibrating sound that seems to be coming from the front top of the door during the cycle. i think it has something to do with the draining...

HI, there are two impellers that can become stripped or jammed overtime. the drive shafts will continue to spin in this case, causing this grinding sound you hear.

You will need to inspect the during housing and the circulation motor as well for signs of impeller trauma. replace each impeller if found to be separated from its respective housing or shaft.

it is required to remove the sump assembly to access the cirulation(wash) motor.

Diswasher motor making noise during wash cycle

It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.

Washer won't drain and is making a grinding sound

That grinding noise could be something caught in your drain pump.  The fact that it doesn't drain could be that something has lodged in the pump and either stopped the impeller from turning, or has ruined the pump.  This is actually a common problem with the small front load washers.  If you remove the lower panel just under the door the drain pump will located in the front on the right hand side.  You will need to remove the inlet hose from the pump.  This is the hose that runs from the tub to the pump.  Unplug the washer first, and drain any residual water from the tub by using a wet/dry shop vac and attaching it to the drain hose at the standpipe.  If you can manage to pull the water from the washer in this manner, you will avoid a huge mess later.  There's roughly 7 gallons of water in the tub when it is full.  I don't think you would want this much water gushing all over your floor.  With the drain line removed inspect the impeller of the pump for obstructions.  The most common culprit is coins, drill bits, screws and nails.  Even tooth picks and cotton swabs can stop the drain pump if they become lodged.  If you find the pump clogged and manage to clear it, you still may have to replace, however.  Just keep that in mind.  The pumps are usually pretty durable, but depending on how long it's been in it's current condition, it may have ruined the pump motor and/or impeller.  I hope you find this information helpful.  Good luck to you and post back with comments if you have any further questions.
