Message that reads Check paper/reload paper

We have a new fax that continues to have a message that says check paper/reload paper, our old fax did the same thing. There is paper in the tray. We are having to open the front and take out the paper tray and close it in order for the fax to work.

Lately, our fax has not been working and the message 'Check/remove original and press stop key' will appear on the LCD screen. Even after removing the original or clearing any paper, the LCD screen...

Thre is a "finger" sensor on the input tray. It is stuck in the "down" position. The fax machine falsly senses paper on the sensor.
Use compressed air (from a can) to clean the sensor and "work" it to free it. Do not lubricate it (no WD40 or duct tape, please)...

Check the blue tab on the inside of paper tray and make sure it is on correct paper size.

Fax machine is very sensitive so try not to put too much paper in it.

Check paper tray - reload paper

Your paper sensor actuator arm is most likely broken or out of position, or you may have a dirty sensor if you are in a dusty environment. If you look in the machine with the tray out, you should see a small (usually black) piece of plastic hanging down. You can also take the toner and drum cartridge out and turn it on its back to get a better look. If it's not there, it's probably broken off.
