My Sony Grand WEGA KFE50A10 50 in. LCD projection TV has a yellow hue over the picture except for the centre where there is a clear circle of perfect picture. I have replaced the lamp but this has made no difference. Is this the 'light engine'?

It is the optical block causing the problem. Sony has had recalls on a lot of the LCD rear projection tv's made over the last 6 to 7 years. The cost of the optical block is around 800.00. Due to the cost, I would check with Sony to see if it qualifies as a recall situation.
I hope this helps,

shemk,

You have a serious problem. The optical block is bad. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7851924-sony_projector_yellow_or_blue_dots which explains the problem and what the solution would be.

Problem with sony 60" rear projection TV

Hi,
I'm afraid, it is problem of optical block unit (light engine) that produce picture by 3 lcds inbuilt, the blue lcd and its related uv filters become defective and causing this kind of blue hue on screen.
Complete optical unit block (light engine) will be replaced by qualified tech to get tv fixed, light engine is costly part so ask an estimate before sending tv in.
Thanks.

Green spot on picture

Greenish yellow spot only means one thing. You have a defective lite engine. The only fix is to replace the engine. This part is very
expensive. Average cost $835.00 Part number A-1606-008-A

Sony wega rear projection

Many Sony LCD projection TV's have a problem with optic block failures and your description is exactly what happens. Picture starts turning yellow or green and blotches of yellow or green. Many Sony model have an extended manufacture warranty on these optic blocks and if you get me the model and serial # of your unit I can provide more info.
