SOURCE: Hard drive crashed

Hi, a restore disk uses data that is stored in a hidden partition on the original drive so when you replaced the hard drive with a new one, it will not have this hidden partition. You will need to either buy a new operating system, or contact your manufacturer/supplier to see what they can do, they may format the new drive with a hidden partition like your original depending how 'nice' they are. Only other thing you can do, is get hold of an original operating system disk from somewhere if you have a COA, (certificate of authenticity) on the computer, contact Microsoft and they should be able to replace your COA serial key with a new one that will work.

If any of this needs clarifying, or you have any other questions. Please let me know! Hope this helps :) Si

In regards to removing the virus when you did the factory restor did you actually to the restore of the restore partition on the hard drive or from restore disks. If it was from the restort partition it is possible that the virus spread to that drive.

If you have access to another computer then I would connect the drive to other computer and try to scan the drive.

The reason for this if Windows thinks the virus is a system file the removal program can not remove it if Windows is running. So connecting it to another computer allows you to fully clean the hard drive. However with alot of viruses at this level will cause you to have to do a clean reinstall of Windows any ways. So you may have to look using your restore disks any ways to get a clean reinstall of Windows.

Let me know if you have any more problems or questions

If you can turn off the auto restart to get a stop error code from the blue screen, that will help you to diagnose this error. Press F8 as it boots and disable the auto restart. Then reboot and note the exact error code reported. Write back with that info and we'll help you to sort it out.
You can look up codes here.
Also helpful links for blue screens here, & here.

Need to help to clean my recovery H disk is coming almost full.

A hard drive is usually partitoned, one hard drive will show up as two. The recovery drive should not be messed with. Don't add files , nor delete files from that drive.

I cant get factory settings on my computer My hard drive wont work properly Ihavent got any memory.Computer very slow Please explain in laymans terms Obliged

1. Factory settings on computer.
There really isn't "factory settings" to reset. Well it isn't simple as that. There is the BIOS which can be reset to "default settings" for the BIOS. Also most brand name computers come with a recovery feature, in which you can recovery/restore the computer back to original factory defaults with original software all installed. Therefore the computer's operating system (usually windows) will be running with the programs like it would run if you were to buy the same new laptop.

2. Hard drive won't work properly.
You can give the hard drive a test using the hard drive's company's hard drive testing software which can be download from their site. The software would test the hard drive to make sure nothing physical is wrong and the hard drive is functioning like normal.

3. Haven't got any memory. Computer very slow.
You can always buy more memory. If windows says it's running out of memory. That means there is too many software running in the background.

Comment if you want more explained.

If your hard drive is big enough try using Partition Magic unless you already have another partition. You can send your most important things like music, pictures and docs to the other partition. Then do a reinstall only on the C partition. Doing a system restore is drastic anyway putting your computer back as the day you bought it.
Viruses are great for messing up window system files and settings which without proper virus removal software, re-installation of the most practical partition (C) is the one to target your repairs to. This case most likely being reinstalling windows which by default is only on C. Be careful of your choices when choosing which partition to delete and reinstall. Pick only C. leaving (x) where that means your other partitions, alone.

Reboot

If you have a virus, especially more than one, you will have to do a fresh install. Yes, wipe everything off your computer, format the hard drive and start again.

Please remember to take some time and get everything off the computer that you need to keep. Everytime I do a fresh install I forget to store my emails and email addresses, some of which are quite important.

Place your windows cd in the cd drive and boot the cd, follow the prompts to do a complete fresh install.

Have you ever done a fresh install? If not, you may need someone with a little knowledge to take you through the process.
