Toshiba 27DF46 27" TV started only turning on

If your comfortable doing it remove the back and unhook the connector from the inferred sensor board, then try to turn the set on with the buttons on the set and shut it off again, if it works ok then that board is bad, if you still have the issue replace the main board

Are you using a universal remote? Does the power button on the set work properly?

my toshiba tv.is around 6yrs. old...this morning when i tried to turn it on,..nothing...i have cable so i use a "box" & my cable company remote...i can turn on the box manually..the remote turns on my dvd player.{sony]...we had a blizzard start during the night..my cable company said they were having problems..i cannot turn on the tv manually..it does nothing at all...is there a safety feature that is causing the problem?..the model number is;27df46...serial number;BAB614020144A...PLEASE ADVISE...Fiona Duffy

You may have bad solder joints inside and around the power supply or deflection circuit. Whit the power on try to hit the side of the set to see if it makes a difference.That would confirm the problem.

what you suggesting is that the lcd has a good maintenance needs that have to have cold solder or connectors are sulfated

Ok, so know you own an LCD or Plazma set, visit the dumpster where your Toshiba is or perhaps your basement just for old times sake..

These problems are normally caused by the TV station.

1. Call the TV station responsible and ask for the network engineer.
2. Tell him the Day, Time, Channel, Program, basically every little detail about the problem.
3. The station will normally check it and fix it.

Also, contact Toshiba and tell them. Really this is part of the DTV Transition thing. Many stations are reconfiguring and settin up equipment. They sometimes make mistakes. Don't worry much about it unless it continues for more than a week. If you like the station, I would call right away.

I contacted Toshiba and they said to turn unplug the TV for at least a minute, if that didn't reset it, then they gave me a service to contact. So I unplugged the TV when I was going to be gone all day, and tried it when I got home, no change at all. I had a repairman come by and he said the problem were the buttons on the TV that had to be replaced. He quoted me $240/labor and $5 for each button to replace (7), considering I only paid about $500 for the TV in December of 2004, I decided to just get a new tv with a warranty. I ended up getting the LG LCD Tv.

it sounds as if it is solder related, bur hard to say for sure. You ay need a service manual to actually trouble shootthe power supply and opeating circuits. I will post a lnk where you can get a service manual emailed to you
