The pin and puk number given to me by carphone warehouse did not work and my PAYG Nokia 2690 rejected my orange sim

It can be solved only by your service provider. take out your sim card and when you see it there are aset of several numbers written note down it . then place the sim and switch it on. then call you network service provider from another mobile having the same network then when the customer care agent speak to you ask them you need puk code for a sim they ask your phone number and sim number your give your locked sim's phone number and the set of several number s which you note donw on the sim . they will provide you the exact puk code and the default pin number this will solve your problem. They will ask the SIM no. (Several digits printed at the back of SIM card) and will give you the PUK code.

At the time when you enter a wrong pin number three times the phone asks you for a PUK number. The PUK code is generally eight digit number. This PUK number is an unlocking code which helps you to unlock the phone and use it. If you enter a wrong PUK number 10 times than you simcard gets rejected. Then you will have to buy a new simcard. Cheema, You should have read the User guide for the phone. There it clearly says that PUK and PIN are given by the service provider. The default PUK is 00000000 (eight zeros) and PIN is 12345. If they are supplied wrong three or more times the SIM gets locked and has to be replaced. Your number remains the same but you have to pay for the SIM. Please contact the helpline of your service provider and ask for a new SIM as you seem to have given wrong PUK more than three times.

HI If you are asking for pin contact your service provider , he will give you a default pin .

If you try pin more than few predefined no of times your phone will ask PUK code which can also be given only by your service provider which is specific for each and every mobile number . Do not try PUK(new pin code) code many times or else your sim will be blocked and you will need a new sim.

Actually its not security code..Its SIM PIN NUMBER..

PIN CODE is SIM dependent and not phone dependent

PUK code in PIN UNLOCKING CODE, which is required when you give PIN number wrongly for 3 times,
This code is OPERATOR specific and not phone specific and you have to call you operator and get PUK if PIN is blocked...

if you provide PUK code wrongly for 7 time, you sim may become useless, then you have to buy new SIM

Now since the SIM is rejected, you have buy new SIM requesting that your SIM is rejected from the operator

the code you're given is meant to be a one time open network, where you basically reset your phone's network settings. If you buy a cheap PAYG phone from the carphone warehouse, you can use any sim card you want as they're all open phones :)
