Question about Motion Computing LE1600 Tablet PC

1 Answer

I replaced the 30 G toshiba HDD that was not functioning on my LE1600 Motion tablet with a 60 G toshiba HDD and tried to install windows xp from an external CDD. It formated the drive and installed the operating system, but on boot up I get the message PXE-E61 ...check cable...exit...operating system not found.

Tried the same thing and got the same result using the motion computing DVD/CD external reader/burner.

Has anyone found an answer to this problem of trying to switch to a larger hard drive on the 1600 with format/installing? The new hard drive was not able to read the recovery disk with OS on it.
Thanks.

I looked at motion computing knowledge base and they advised using a USB connected external reader (not the motion computing proprietary one that has it own distinct cable attachment to the computer).

Using a USB external reader has worked and the Tablet recognizes it for format/install OS.

    Cheers,

know of similar problems. either the cable and connection end you have or the receiving end in the tablet. can be diagnosed by getting replacement charging cable. if the problem goes away then its the cable if not it is probably the receiving end in the tablet

Hi .I am trying to Install WIN 7 on LE1600 from the USB (Enabled with Bootable Win7).I am able to boot from the USB but stucking at giving the Inputs for Regional seting at Installtion as the KEYBoard is...

As far as I am aware windows 7 has not been confirmed for tablets or win CE platform type devices

Check you manuals and any Cd's that came with the 1600 and see if there is some form of reset or original system restore ability.

Microsoft has a win7 compatibility check utility anyone wishing to try win 7 on these types of device is recommended to use that first to identify potential issues.

Toshiba portege 3500 tablet pc

Hello,

You should contact Toshiba service and order a recovery CD for that model. You can also install any Windows XP version, but it will not provide support for the tablet functionalities, which means that you will have a notebook that is not a tablet.

Note: Actually the original operating system is Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005: It is Win XP Pro + Tablet PC software.

I have heard that Vista provides support for Tablet functionalities, but you may still have to buy it from Toshiba because of the drivers for the specific hardware.

I installed Linux Ubuntu on a tablet. The latest version of Ubuntu provides some support for the wacom stylus pen, but not much else.

Hope it gives you some leads to follow through.

Install new os on motion le 1600

You can use an external USB drive, either CD or DVD dependent on your OS media.

I used a Phillips drive, with external power supply, to restore to factory settings using their restore CDs. I also installed Windows Vista Ultimate from DVD, without issues :)

Slow not responsive Motion computing LE1600 tablet pc

Do you have a lot of extra programs running in the background? These are great devices, but they do not have a lot of processing power or memory. Try cleaning up unnecessary programs to see if that makes a difference.

The sure fire way to make sure there isnt anything running is a reformat. Just make sure you backup your data first.

Power port on le1600 does not charge batteries.

In some Motion LE1600 tablet pcs, the AC adapter port becomes separated from the motherboard. It will charge in the convertible keyboard or docking station because the power comes from the USB connection (for the kb) or the dock connector (for the FlexDock). Motion used to fix this by repairing the solder joint but now they just replace the motherboard (very expensive). There are ways to solder this but the repair doesn't always last unless you have someone really good do it.

Glass replacement

A replacement display can be purchased from some sources for around $600 but you'll find that now an off-lease LE1600 can be purchased for less than that. With all the time to replace the display (about an hour for an experienced tech) I would consider buying another used unit and moving your hard drive to that rather than try and get the glass replaced.
