Toshiba regza 42" lcd sound but no video

When I turn the tv on I have perfect video and sound then after a couple of minutes the screen goes a dark grey color but the sound continues fine.

I have the exact same tv and the exact same problem. The problem began to occur intermittently a week or two after I brought it home. (I've had the TV for about 2 months now -- Because I have been busy and have the extended warranty, I haven't bothered to return it yet.)

The problem seems to follow this pattern:
After .5 to 6 hours of being on, the screen will go black (and the sound will be unaffected) for 2 -4 seconds. The picture will then come back. However, after about 5 minutes, it will go black and stay black until I turn it off and on. Then the picture will be fine for about 20 minutes before going (and staying) black again until I turn it off and on once again.

The problem occurs only intermittently. Sometimes I can have the TV on for 5 or 6 hours at at time without experiencing the problem. Other times the TV will be on for only about 30 minutes before occurring. It may be heat-related as the problem seems to crop up more quickly when the room is warm.

I'm currently traveling, but as soon as I return home (tomorrow) I will try the solution I saw to a similar problem with a different size REGZA, which was to hold down the power-button on the side of the TV for 5+ seconds (until the yellow power light begins blinking) to reset it, then powering off the TV and then turning it on with the remote. Of course, any other suggestions (besides the obvious "get off your **** and return it") are most welcome.

Same for me, happened after about a month of use. Tried to take it back to Best Buy and they said I was screwed, call Toshiba. Toshiba will do in home service through a 3rd party service, but I was 2 far away from them to get it. So, I had to drop my TV off 40 miles away from my home at some mom and pop sh*t TV repair shop. They said it would be at least a week until someone even gets to look at the TV. AWESOME. If it ends up taking longer then a week to fix, I'm calling Toshiba up and laying a cuss fest on them. Great TV tho, when it works.

I have a 37' Regza and its only 6 months old and I am having the same problem. It was only for an hour then the screen went black and I only had sound. Only difference is my screen has stayed black and has yet to come back on. I will try the reset trick you folks mentioned, but I figure this is going to be a warranty call.

I've had my 42RV530U for a week now, and twice when I've turned it on, it's had sound but no picture. The backlight has been on. When I've turned it off and on, it has come back turned on as it should (with a picture). I hope this is not a sign of things to come...

How to fix Toshiba Regza LCD TV when half the screen with vertical streaks?

hi this fault sounds like a bad tab/ribbon fault, at top of the tv are ribbons connector to the screen, when one is faulty the heat makes them flex causing this fault, you can bond the ribbon down with a bit of rubber to stop it flexing, but this not a permanent repair as it is a screen fault. hope it helps

If you are using a hdmi cable take it off and switch to component cables if the problem goes away keep it that way. Sometimes the hdmi hookups have bugs like this.

The TV turns itself off after 14 minutes

Sounds like maybe you have a sleep timer activated?  There should be an option to reset the tv back to factory reset, this might help you.

Weird lines on Toshiba REGZA

its in warranty ship it, the problem is actually not common but it is a problem it is related to the processor on the main board, and um don't trust salesmen to tell you about repair issues. They really don't have a clue. if you need a tv for to weeks then rent one for two weeks they are not that expensive to rent
