SOURCE: Sony SDM-HS74P/S 17 - Monitor won't stay on the right picture

When the screen turns black again take a flashlight and shine it in the bottom left hand corner where the Windows Start button is located. If you can see a faint image then your back light is failing. If that?s not the case the next step would be to attach another monitor to your computer to see if the problem disappears. If it does that points to the monitor, if it doesn?t then we need to take a look at the computer itself. Let us know what you find out and please don?t forget to rate this posting.

SOURCE: How to replace Sony monitor case

I couldn?t find disassembly instructions for your CRT; however, I can give you some safety warnings and some general hints. If no one else posts at mine will either discourage you OR give you enough to start. First off CRTs are dangerous, taking one apart without the proper training and precautions can kill or severely injure you. If you don?t already have the training and experience discharging the stored energy in the monitor you should not attempt it even if you have ?instructions?. If you decided to continue on then there are typically four screws holding the back of the monitor case to the front panel. On some higher end Sony?s they are covered with a plastic cover that you can easily pry off with a screwdriver. Once you have them out then the back cover can be removed, exposing the tube and remainder of the electronics. Again a warning, unless you know what you are doing you run the risk of severe electric shock and should not proceed. Usually there are a series of screws that attach the chassis to the front panel, remove them, the panel electronic connections and the disassembly should be done.

SOURCE: Black Out

Hi Detrix, Check with www.lcdrepair.net if you want a repair. Something is wrong with your LCD controller and or GUI interface circuit or the circuit supplying power to it. If your technically endowed, you may want to open the monitor case and clean the dust and lint from around the circuits using a Small paint brush to sweep away any built up dust. These circuits take the Signal from the computer and controls the 2.5 million pixels on the LCD screen. Dsut can cause major problems with handling all that data. Give it a shot, what do you have to loose, its not dangerous if the monitor is unplugged.

I need Driver for WIN 7

There doesn't seem to be any drivers supporting (well, specifying they support win7) but you can try this one. It's the only one out there. http://download.cnet.com/SONY-CPD-E220-E220E/3000-2108_4-169549.html
Good luck.

Monitor not working

Try another monitor on your computer. If you still get a blank screen then its an issue with the computer not having any video coming out of the video card. If you hook up another monitor and you get video then its an issue with the original monitor.

Also try the original monitor on another computer and see if video comes up. If you still don't get video, that would mean the monitor is bad for sure since you would have tried it on two different computers.

CRT EV730 Monitor Just went out won't power won't do any thing

Check the color of the pluggie that goes into the back of your monitor, it is most likely either blue or white. Find a friend who has the same color plug and borrow their monitor for a few minutes. If theirs works; your monitor has **** out. If theirs does not work then your video card (on-board or add-on card) has **** out and you'll have to have a new card added to your system.

Monitor

Are you sure this is a monitor problem? I have a user with a Mac that occasionally has the same symptoms you describe. For me I generally have to shut the computer down and physically unplug the power cord from the computer (not monitor), reattach it and restart. Let us know if that works for you.

You will get similar cable in the component market. Just pull out the cable after removing back cover of the monitor, and fix the new one.
