2000 GMC Jimmy Logo

My 2000 GMC Jimmy had brand new battery installed roughly a week ago. Attempted to run errands last evening and whole vehicle was dead: unable to use key fob to unlock doors, engine didn't even attempt to turn over, no dashboard activity, no power whatsoever. I have a professionally installed remote start system put in a year ago. All maintenance performed by experienced professionals as we have a family-owned towing business with great contacts/relationships with reputable shops. I'm hoping to find out the problem so I don't need to bother my father (again)! Items to note: I live in Ohio's cold/freezing weather & start vehicles every day even if not leaving house. New battery was installed (as noted above) after the older battery suddenly died unexpectedly. I helped someone jump start their pickup truck a few days before this problem started (he was ASE certified repairman who hooked up the cables to jump) Could the jump start have damaged/drained the battery? Could the remote start system be causing issues? I'm just baffled & would like to stop bugging my family to help! :) Thank you kindly!!!

You should check the voltage on your batttery when the car is running. If it reads about 13.5 to 14 volts, your alternator is doing it's job. If it's less, replace the alternator. If the alternator is ok, you have a power drain somewhere, you will need a proffesional to look at it.

I got a 2000 gmc Jimmy no start, no spark and diagnostic computer says no link or communication from pcm. Any ideas? I did check all the fuses and the wiring to the distributor, crank sensor, ignition...

If vehicle has been submerged, PCM is likely dead. If vehicle has been struck by lightning, PCM could be locked up or dead. Assuming none of these has happened:
Check power to PCM, not just fuses. You can check through the backside of the connectors ON the PCM.
Check connectors on PCM.
Check ground to PCM.
Make sure you've had no rodent activity on vehicle wiring.
Reset PCM by disconnecting battery (+) lead, waiting 15 seconds, then grounding battery (+) to battery (-) lead. Reconnect battery (+) lead to battery. All user memory sets such as radio and seat settings will be lost.
With no output from PCM, after resetting, the highest probability is dead PCM. It's rare, but it happens.

96 Jimmy runs better in cold weather than warm

Hi Buc, have a look at all the intake manifold ducting and make sure nothing is broken and leaking air. Also make sure that all vacuum hoses are fitted tight and correctly and they are not loose, broken or cracked. It will be better to check each by disconnecting, checking and refitting. Let me know how you get on. Have a happy new year. Regards John

Vehicle over heated now battery is dead

When the GMC overheats it goes into limp home mode. This is why the truck was running rough. The computer only allows the engine to run on three cylinders at a time, to allow the vehicle to continue driving without damage to the engine. If the temperature continues to increase then the computer will stop the engine from running at all. One gallon of fluid is plenty to allow the truck to overheat. As far as the battery it sounds like you need to have it charged. Get a load test on the battery and replace it if needed. Dont forget to check the alternator while your at it. A bad charging system could be the cause of a dead battery.

Dead spot on fuel pump of 2000 GMC Jimmy, I just replaced it not even a year ago.

a dead spot is a dead spot nothing you can do about it.check to see what the warranty is on the pump it maybe covered.if not replace it other wise are you going to throw the truck away just for a pump and you won`t get much to sell it especially when its not running.this sometimes happens with electrical, think of a new light bulb you just put in and it burns out shortly afterwards.

Does or did the check engine light ever come on durring all of this ? Or did the alternator light ever come on durring all of this? Jump starting another vehicle, damage to your battery I duoght it, damage to your Alternator and or other electrical componants highly possible if not connected properly. The new battery going dead again could cause all of the problems you have discribed for me. If I were you the first thing I would do is check the new battery and see if it has gon dead now. If so check to see if it is Frozen. If it is frozen you will half to replace it, because once a battery has frozen it will never hold a charge again.Once you have replaced the battery with a good known one (fully charged). Start engine and warm up to normal operating temperature and then disconnect the battery if the engine keeps running then the Alternator is fine . If the engine stalls then you need a new Alternator.A bad Alternator could have ben the problem from the start.I also live in a cold climate zone ( RedDeer, Alberta, Canada).Good Luck and have a good XMSS.

Will a 1995 Chevy Blazer fuel pump work in a 2000 GMC Jimmy? If not, what years are compatible with a 2000 GMC Jimmy?

That depends on the engine and fuel system. For example, throttle body runs around 12 PSI as where fuel injection (Injectors on each cylinder) can run up to 40 PSI. Run the pump that fits your vehicle!
