SOURCE: limit or no conectivity problem

I understand that you are using the Windows Internet Connection Sharing to share your internet connection to your other computer.

If you don't have a router to share the connection then you are using Windows ICS connection.

When you enable ICS, the network adapter connected to the local area network is assigned a static IP address of 192.168.0.1.

You can check this site for more information
http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/ics_xp

You can try to connect the two computers first without the internet connection.

Example : PC A 192.168.0.2
You can set the IP addresses manually, just set the tcp/ip properties and from that area you can set the IP address manually.

And for PC B 192.168.0.3
You dont need to set the ip address for the gateway and dns since you are just testing the connection of the two computer.

They should belong to the same workgroup example HOME and set the computer name to PC1 and PC2.

You can right click MY COMPUTER then select PROPERTIES then you will able to see the computer name.

To start the wizard
1.
Choose Control Panel from the Start menu.
2.
Click Network and Internet Connections, and then click Set up or change your home or small office network.

SOURCE: Laptop cannot connect to internet outside company domain using wifi at home

typically at home you don't need any proxy settings configured within internet explorer. often in a work environment proxy settings can be applied.

if you think thar you have access to modify the settings do the following;

right click the IE7 (same for IE6) icon on your desktop select properties and select internet properties on the dropdown list.

left click the "Connections" tab
left click the LAN Settings button

deselect all of the ticks (most importantly the Proxy server part)
left click OK
left click OK

then open up IE normally and see if this has worked.
note of caution though; if as you suspect group policy is pushing the settings, next time you logon to the company LAN your changes may be lost and you will need to remove the ticks again.

also if you still get no joy try leaving the Automatically detect settings ticked with the proxy part unticked.

No. They do need to be connected either by wire or wireless to a device to receive data to be printed or through the use of a data card that you can insert in the printer.
