I have an Avanti Upright Freezer, Model #310VFYWH. It quit working recently. I've unplugged the unit and waited 15 minutes, then plugged it back in. Still won't work. Today I pulled it out from the wall and felt the compressor which was hot to the touch.

You did not say if it was running or not.
If not running at all, then it may be the cold control, (thermostat) that has failed. You can remove it, jump the 2 wires going to it, and see if it runs and cools.
If so, you may be able to contact your local appliance parts house for a replacement.
However, if running and not cooling, then 2 options.
1. If under 5 years, sealed system should be under warrant. Call your selling dealer for details.'
2. If over 5 years, not price effective.

never turn a fridge up side down and when moving a fridge or freezer keep it upright as much as poss and dont plug back in for 24hrs.now leave it unplugged a buy new one...

I suspect when you lifted or moved the freezer, you tilted the compressor such that the oil washed out into the refrigeration lines. Common when people tilt refrigeration equipment the wrong way.
