Question about LaCie Hard Disk 500GB with Hi-Speed USB2.0 500 GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

1 Answer

Hi. I have a LaCie Hard Drive designed by Poulton with N2870 on it. I've misplaced the external power cord adaptor, and need to know what kind to get. The guys at Radio Shack said they need to know: volts, amps and wattage. Thanks.

I have the same one. The power supply I have says input 100-240V output is 24W 12V 2A.
I'm replacing the power supply but my big problem is not knowing the polarity of the tip There is no sticker on the hard drive itself or on the power supply (that I suspect is fried). Can anyone help?

    Hi Lisa,

On my power adapter for the N2870, it shows positive in the middle, negative on the external..

    Hope it still helps you..

I need to install lacie stup assistant.or download

Hello,
LaCie Setup assistant is made to make it easier for the customer.
If you do not have it, you can format your drive using your MAC or PC and you can download manual and utilities from the LaCie website, which are the only things the assistant really does.

Lacie 1T Poulton design external hard drive is clicking

Before you resort to freezers and desperation, know that the external power supplies for these things are a. crucial and b. delicate. If the output voltage is down for any reason, it can produce the same clicking symptoms. I would get to a repair shop, and ask them to test the drive with a 'known good' power supply. I did so this very morning with a LaCie drive: no more clicking, happily mounting drive...and power supply replaced under warranty. Good luck

No external drive icon on desk top

This happened to me as well - i have been reading that it could be the power supply adaptor. If you can try another one - it might solve the problem. The adaptors seem to either be faulty or made to stop working. Great news for us the consumer!!

I think I fried my LACIE 500gb drive

Sadly if you fried the drive with that PSU cord it would be pretty hard for a home repair. If you know its definatly dead, I would just remove the drive from the external unit and try to connect it internally to a computer. If the adaptor is different you could buy a cheapy online somewhere.
