I think thermostat gauge being halfway up when cold is due to an erroneous gauge. The heater being on and the fan making a loud clicking noise could be an obstruction that has gotten into the fan area, like a leaf or stem from a tree. Or else, the fan is in need of replacement.

Gauge is nothing to do with teh fan ,the gauge is mismatched resistances ,but the fan motor is a different ball game

I have a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2. One side of the back seat goes down, but the other side won't. What's going on? There's no button, there's no lever?

Question edited for correct spelling of model 'Z2 X' to 'ZX2'.
Question moved to model category.

It looks like a split rear seat, 1/3 -- 2/3. The catches would be in the boot, upper left and right. Regs dictate it can't be done sitting in the seat.

What is wrong when the gage says that the car is over heating but its full of coolent?

There may be an internal problem, the engine temp should be checked with infer-red temp gun or some other external gauge. Or it is also possible the there is a bad temp sensor.

Hi, this 1999 ford escort zx2 has a heating problem, i set the temperature to the red side on supposedly the hottest, and air fan running, and air its still cold, it has coolant/antifreeze mix to proper...

You may have a clogged heater core. Carefully feel both heater hoses and see if they are about the same temperature. If one is colder than the other the flow thru your heater core is restricted and it will have to be changed

Escort van 55 blower heater does not blow at all

I had this problem on my '98 Ford Escort ZX2.
It did not need a new blower but a $15 Blower Motor Resistor.  The wires and connectors rusted out.

Ford Escort -1998 low temperature gage

Replace the thermostat, if that does not cure the issue you have a slight head gasket leak. I am a retired Ford dealer tech and this is what I have found causes this issue.
