I have a R50A Reddy Heater. Has plenty of kerosene. When I plug it in the fan comes on but the ignighter does not come on and the safety cut-off switch activates and shuts the unit down. Looking on way to check what's wrong.

When filled with kerosene then plugged in, the heater will kick on for about 3 seconds and the fan will run but it will not ignite, then it shuts off. reddy heater 55, 55000btu. runs on K1 or fuel oil.

Reddy heater cuts out after 30 seconds

this problem is common with this type of heater and usually means that the fan is not pushing enough air over the heat exchanger and is tripping the high limit switch.check the fan

Kerosene Reddy Heater, fan comes on, but it won't ignite, it just blows kerosene out the front. There is no electricity getting to the plug. Please reply soon, I need it tomorrow!! Thanks

Your description does not leave much to go on, because you don’t state the model heater that you have. You see, there are 2 different technologies that come into play on portable kerosene heaters. First there is the older version spark plug type heater, and, second there is the newer computerized type with Hot Surface Ignitor (HSI) technology.

Since you state "There is no electricity getting to the plug", the KEYWORD here is PLUG. I am going to assume that you have a spark plug type heater. NOTICE: if your heater has HSI technology- disregard this post because it will not apply.

Causes for "no electricity to the plug":

  1. no electricity to the unit
  2. a defective Safety Control (reset)
  3. a defective photocell
  4. a defective Ignition Control (transformer)
  5. loss of ground to the Ignition Control

I am including a link to some troubleshooting tips for spark plug type heaters. These heaters are relatively simple, but, be careful. Stay away from the fan and take precautions from the obvious shock hazards. Troubleshoot each of the above until you find the problem.

Good luck!

Trys to start. Motor turns slowly (revolution in 2-3 seconds).

Either:
  1. the reset (safety control) is bad
  2. the photocell is defective
  3. both of the above

30'000 btu spark style will not lite

  1. clean the fuel filter
  2. clean the nozzle
  3. set the air pump pressure.
It should fire off, unless you have developed an air leak, worn nozzle, bad fan, or a motor that is not turning rpm's.
