Hi the outside screen of my Sony ericsson has been cracked because someone stepped on my bag. I have found information on the net about replacing the lcd screen, but nothing about the outside screen. Does anyone know if this is part of the casing/housing and not the screen as such, or is it so that when you replace the lcd screen it replaces that outside screen as well, which is usually what gets a bit scratched. My lcd and display seem to be working fine, its just the large star shaped crack is annoying and obstructive. All help appreciated

When you have a cracked screen, the only solution to it is to replace it with a screen of that exact type.you will have to see a certified engineer close to you to fix the scree.

unfortunately, sony will not repair it for free, as it is classed as physical damage. but i do suggest that you take it to an authorised sony ericsson service centre. they will charge you for the screen, but the good news is that it will bring it back into warranty conditions, so if you do have any further problems later on, warranty will cover it. If it is not done by an authorised tech, and non genuine parts are used, you automatically lose your warranty

There is also a possibility of moisture as well. Sony Ericsson's are notorious for going white screen when there is moisture or corrosion in the phone.

To be completely honest regarding Flashing the phone... it is not easy and has many steps. I would recommend going to www.gsmhosting.net. There, search for forums on flashing the K800i software. To flash the phone, you will need a Cruiser Box, the correct cable, and the full software for that phone and your service provider. The K800i is DB2020, which is Sony Ericsson's most up to date encryption.

Believe me though, there is way to much involved in flashing the phone to post here. How long have you had it and if there is no moisture, have you considered a warranty exchange through Sony Ericsson?
