The intermittent nature rules out the thermal fuse (which is either burned out or not).
Take off the panel so you can watch the burner. If the ignitor comes on for a minute (you will see it glow), but then turns off with no gas igniting, the problem is probably the gas-valve solenoids.
If the ignitor heats up only once in a while (like after the dryer has been off for a while), but the gas consistently is released and the fire lights whenever the ignitor heats up, the problem is the thermistor (thermostat in the blower). The second thing is actually the easiest to fix, and cheapest. You my find that simply cleaning the thermistor probe will fix it. For my kenmore, the part has been updated from the original to limit the degree to which it gets fouled up with gunk. I can give you links to parts and/or instructions if you like.

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

Maytag dryer will heat up the first time but not again. Igniter goes on but doesnt light.

Replace both valve coils. They will open the valve the first time, but when they get hot, they become intermittent at best.

Heat sometimes works in 2003 envoy

First I recommend checking that your coolant level is good. Please check this cold so you don't risk getting burned. I have seen too many heater complaints where the coolant level was simply too low to fill the heater core. Next, you should check if the heater control valve is operating. I don't have any GM experience, but heater valves are often the cause of intermittent heater operation in many cars. Good luck!

INOPERATIVE HEATED SEAT(S) - BUILT
BEFORE 12/14/2007

FORD:
2005-2007 Five Hundred, Freestyle
2008 Taurus X, Taurus

MERCURY:
2005-2007 Montego
2008 Sable

ISSUE
Some 2005-2007 Freestyle, Five Hundred, Montego and 2008 Taurus, Sable and Taurus X vehicles built before 12/14/2007 may exhibit an inoperative heated seat(s). This concern may be caused by an intermittent open element in the heated seat mat.

ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.

SERVICE PROCEDURE
The heated seat system is controlled by the heated seat module located underneath the front passenger seat cushion. The heated seat switches are part of the heating ventilation air conditioning (HVAC) module but the heated seat system operates independently from the climate control system. The heated seat module regulates seat temperature by monitoring resistance of a thermistor type thermostat located in the cushion heater mat. The heated seat module is designed to remain on, heating the seat and maintaining temperature until switched off. For vehicles built before 5/1/2006, the module will time-out and switch off after 10 minutes.

1. Refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 501-10 for pin point test on inoperative heated seat(s).
a. When testing the heater mats resistance and circuits for an intermittent open, technicians should sit in the seat while testing the circuit resistance, move the seat in multiple seating positions and apply pressure to several areas of the heated seat mat to ensure the mat element is not open intermittently.

2. Refer to WSM 501-10 for heated seat element replacement when an open electrical circuit has been identified.

Dryer lights, heats up some but wont relite

Replace the coil packs on the gas valve this fixes 90% of gas dryers lighting intermittently. The bracket comes off and they are sold seperately from any appliance parts retailer.
