Hi there. the other morning my sony handycam (model DCR-HC30E) was working fine but then later on in the day it just did something funny. when we go to playback the tape it just has a blue screen and doesnt show any digits in the top corner as to say how far in the tape you are. it just has --/--/-- . you can hear it rewinding but still no digits come up and it wont show you anything on that tape. so confusing and frustrating! i hope you can help?

Hmm. I'm not exactly sure on your model, but you would either use a firewire port or USB port to make the capture. I'm more than sure since it is a mini dv camera that you would have a fire port/Ieee1394 Connect.

try a miniDV haed cleaning tape, the drum might be dirty, so no information is seen from the tape.
did you get a message " clean haeds on the screen??
