The menus and terminology vary a bit between makes of camera but this example is for the popular Panasonic range of Lumix cameras:-
1. Switch the camera to Manual Mode -
2. Press the Menu button -
3. Navigate with the 'go up' or 'go down' buttons to 'Col.Effect' -
4. Use the 'go right' button to move the cursor right -
5. A list appears with 'Sepia' as one of the options -
6. Use the 'go down' button to move the setting down to 'Sepia' -
7. Click the central 'Set' button once to select the 'Sepia' setting and return to the 'Menu' -
8. Press 'Set' button again to exit from Menu and start snapping in Sepia!!

How do I take serpia

I'm not sure that you can shoot Sepia in the camera. Usually this is a post production action done in a photo editor i.e. Photoshop, Elements etc.

How do I change the settings to take pictures in Black & White? Thank you

From the shooting menu, select "Color." You can select "B&W" for black-and-white, or "Sepia" for the old-fashioned brownish look. For full details look in the manual under "Shooting menu." It's on page 32 of the online version of the manual available on the manufacturer's web site at

How do you take black and white pictures?

Press MENU to display the menu, then select the Shooting menu.

The first item should be "Color", which lets you select the color mode. You can choose B&W for black-and-white or Sepia for sepia-toned.

Take a look under "Shooting Menu" in your manual. It's on page 32 in my copy.

The images are not crisp - as if not fully in focus

I am having the same problem. I bought a Tamron zoom lens as an add on. This lens costs more than the camera and yet images are not as sharp as i would expect from such a highly touted camera. My Kodak Z740 point and shoot gives sharper prints. This is very frustrating. I bought Rebel for Dummies and still am having the same problem. Very frustrating

Photoshop: how do I turn a color pic to sepia and leave certain part in color?

well i can suggest a very simple solution for problem. Follow the video to create a sepia http://video.about.com/graphicssoft/Sepia-tone-look-in-photoshop.htm
after that merge all the layers. Now add the original picture in you work and place it at the back of the Sepia Layer. Carefully erase the flower in the Sepia Layer and as you do this the flower from the original picture will show its original colors.
