if you have ps3 slim with the light up power and eject buttons that look like this go to amazon.com and buy a ps3 xcm led fan and that should fix it once you install it. it cost 39.99

I have solution for all of you. You need to call sony at 1-800-345-7669. They will send you a box so you can place you unit in (ps3). If you got warrany on your ps3 they will ask you to send in a copy to varify that it is still in warrany. If it is then they will not charge you anything they will open up the system and see what the problem is either fix the ps3 or they will replace it with a refuribished one. Also you need to make sure that the warrany tag on the ps3 upper right side is still there or they will charge you 150 dollars. And if the serial on the back is removed they will not even service your unit. If you unit is not in warrany they will charge you 150 dollars. Wich is real good because they will dust the interior of it good luck everyone...

For me my ps3 (40g) was vertical and got a bit too hot for the cheap thermal paste sony uses. Once it heats up it leaks out from between the heatsink and cpu/gpu. It also happened to get in my fan. Solution; replace the fan. Disassembly can be found on youtube and is simple. Replacing the Fan is a snap and I recommend Arctic Silver 5 on your Cpu and Gpu to avoid having any more issues.

If you want to see PS3 get disassembled go to youtube and search Gilskey. he has videos of disassembly. if your PS3 has a warranty and you disassemble it, the warranty will be voided!!!!!!! you can buy replacement fans on ebay.

I carefully opened my ps3 as the fan had gotten stuck, the way the fan is designed, (Large 4 inch or so) required a reseat ( push the fan back down to the motor) The way it's designed is that if the ps3 tips from vertical over to horizonal rather roughly the fan becomes displaced, I gently pushed the fan back down and it was free as a bird again, max cool. I think if the system is tipped over frm vertical, too many times roughly tha fan would probably be worn out, so I'm shopping for a back up. A aftermark external would probably work too, But remember though the internal fan is a stepper motor, if the cpu thinks it's not rotating.. cool or not it will probably indicate failure and resume a shutdown condition... best of luck PS have a spare fan on hand...

Playstation 3 turns off by itself

this could be your ps3 overheating due to your fans being blocked by dust, clean your ps3 with a damp cloth, not wet as this will damage your ps3 even more, if this doesnt work and your ps3 is still within warranty take it back and get it fixed for free, if you need more help dont hesitate in writing back

Ps3 doesnt display on my tv on regular plug and shuts off after 2 mins

The PS3 combines the features of a game console and a Blu-ray player in one device but like many highly sophisticated devices it can easily overheat. An overheating PS3 displays an LED on the front called the "yellow light of death" and shuts itself off after a few minutes. Repairing a PS3 system so that it doesn't overheat can be done at home, although you will need to open up the case and add heat dissipation paste to the GPU and CPU chips inside of the case. But it costs you more rather you can send the unit to SONY.

Ps3 overheat

Your PS3 might have a broken fan. If you are using an external fan that attaches to the PS3 than stop, fans like the Nyko Intercooler and Pelican cause more problems with ventillation and may cause the PS3 to overheat. If heat is an issue make sure the system has plenty of room to breath and point a small fan at the console. If thiat doesn't work call Sony customer sopport.
