On a sony str-dh710, is there any difference in the amp. level between setting the distance levels and the db levels? Also using the Video 2 input on the front of the reciever I'm not able to get any...

.. or read the manual about setup and getting multichannel audio from 2-channel sources. Calibration and Selecting a Sound Field.

Distance is linear spatial separation of two points. dB is audibility, sound pressure level, volume. The distance setting affects how the various channels are delayed to arrive at the primary listening position at the appropriate time to provide a plausible sound field. Simply making one or more speakers louder or softer will not affect the spatiality of it.

Sony STR 1200 audio-visual sync

Yes it can be fixed.

Enter the speaker setup menu and toggle till you get to the selection for speaker distance. Assuming that you have your speakers properly positioned for correct reproduction of 5.1 surround sound, decreasing the setting for speaker distance will help. Start with 3-4 feet closer from the current setting. This enables the on board DSP (digital signal processor) to delay in milliseconds, the sound output for closer distance settings. It can also advance in milliseconds as well for further distance settings FYI.

Zone 2

I am sure this isn't it, but if all components are connected digitally Zone 2 won't work. It only allows analog connections, so anything attached via HDMI, etc. will not be able to be output to Zone 2.
