Each time I start my eeepc 1005HA, time/date has gone. This sounds like a CMOS battery dead. I expect you give me what I must buy and how I can replace the battery. Thanks a lot.

You should change your cmos battery. the model is ML 1220. don't buy the CR 1220 because it is not rechargeable. I hope this helps. I also have the same problem with my asus eee pc 1005HA.

Replace cmos battery

Most laptops require you to take the laptop apart to get to the CMOS Battery. It will be a silver battery about the of a nickel on the motherboard. The most common is CR2032. Also sometimes the battery will be in a vinyl covering and have a cable that attaches to a port on the motherboard. Which ever type you have you'll need to either remove the battery or unplug the cable. Then put it back, reassemble the laptop and reboot the laptop. With the CMOS battery out the computer will lose the date, time and password.

It sounds like the CMOS battery(s) are dead. They hold the most recent boot information including current date. Assuming both machines are on the older side, it's entirely possible the CMOS batteries no longer are providing enough power to retain this information.

Your CMOS battery may be dead or dying, or just has been reset. It is a small watch-like battery that keeps track of the time and BIOS settings. Your BIOS settings may have been reset because the battery cannot hold enough of a charge to store the settings and time. Also, it could have just been manually reset in the BIOS settings. If you go into the BIOS settings, adjust your date and time, and the POST screen setting, and the settings stay that way, your battery is good and was just reset. If you change the settings and they reset again, you have a bad CMOS battery. If it is the battery and you need instructions to replace it, let me know.

Ibm thinkpad

The 161 CMOS error means the CMOS/BIOS battery is dead/flat and needs to be replaced.
The 163 CMOS error means the Date and Time could not be updated when you change the Date and Time setting. This is caused by the flat CMOS/BIOS battery.
When you replace the battery with a new one, the BIOS will go back to the default settings, go into to BIOS setting (press F2 when you boot up) and change the Date and Time, then save and exit.
