I cannot get my printer to print in only black and white. I have put new ink cartridges in, both color and black. I have selected "print in gray scale only" in the print options. But anything I...

Please take out the new cartridges and re-position them correctly i.e. color cartridge on the left and black cartridge on the right seating. Check that you hear a click sound when the cartridge is placed in the seating. Print a test page. Then switch off the printer for some time. Re start the printer and now carry out the gray scale printing.

The "on-off" light is flashing steadly... while

The flashing light could either indicate a cartridge problem or the printer carrier has stalled.
Test the cartridges one by one and do the printer hardware test (refer to the relevant document for your printer) to establish which one is defective. The defective cartridge needs to be changed. To do the hardware test, follow the steps below:
  1. Switch the printer off.
  2. Put one sheet of paper into the paper feeder.
  3. Press and hold the power button and the paper feed button for three seconds until the power light comes on.
  4. Release both buttons. After three seconds, the printer will start to print. You should obtain a page containing a series of horizontal color lines, and a thick black line below these. All the lines should be solid.
  5. When the test is complete, switch off the printer. NOTE: If you do not turn off the printer, it will keep on printing this page.
To check if you have a cartridge carrier stall, follow steps below:
  1. First unplug the printer.
  2. Move the cartridges to the left by hand. In order to do this, you need to grip the top of the carrier belt (a black/grey belt with cog-like teeth) and pull it towards the right-hand side of the printer.
  3. Once the cartridges have been moved across, you can clip them out.
  4. Try to print without the cartridges in the carrier.
  5. If you no longer have a carrier stall, put the cartridges back into the carrier and clip them into place.
Try to print a document to check if printer is working properly now.
If problem continues, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

I have a Lexmark Printer z2400. i have a lexmark ink Cartridge that was working. now i get the message "unsupported Cartridge'. I was able to print a test page twice then it went back to...

that can be happened with some problem of cartridge or cartridge holder.
if you can check the printer with your older empty cartridge, and you can see
the different error message with that , it says your printer is OK.
and have some problem with your cartridge.and need to replace it.

if you can see same message with your old and empty cartridge,
you can clean both of cartridge the connecting pads ( in printer cartridge holder and
back side of the cartridge ) using by IPA and check again.
if had corrosion or some ink swallowed problem , can be clean with that.

after that if you got same result, you need to check your cartridge with
another printer or your printer with another good cartridge.

The printing speed slowed to a snail pace. I pressed Setup, 2, and then 6 to print a self-test report. I got a a "cartridge error" message. Then I removed both cartridges and cleaned them. Still...

This is caused by the failure of one of your cartridges. Remove the black cartridge and print a test page. Does the printer print at normal speed? Is so the black cartridge was the issue and should be replaced. If not then put the black cartridge back in and remove the color cartridge and print test page. If the printer now prints normal speed the color cartridge was at fault and needs to be replaced.

Hi, I have a lexmark x7170 and keep getting an error message "unsupported cartridge". Help please!!

If you receive an error message that tells you that you have an unsupported cartridge, then you need to remove the cartridge. After installing the appropriate type of ink cartridge you should no longer receive the error message and you can then perform a print test.
Instruction on how avoid unsupprted cartridge message.
  1. Lift up the scanner unit (with the power on). The printer cartridge carrier will move to the top of the printer into the loading position.
  2. Press down on the lever above the cartridge and then raise the cartridge lid. Remove the cartridge and make sure the cartridge supports no more than four colors (cyan, yellow, magenta and black) and a speed of 22 parts per notation.
  3. Insert the compatible ink cartridge into the carrier and then lower the cartridge lid. Close the scanner unit, then make sure plain white paper is inserted into the paper loader.
  4. Press the "OK" button on the control panel and the unsupported cartridge message should be gone. Press the "Select" button and a test alignment page will print.

How do you connect the printer

NOTE: To ensure that the software is installed correctly, do not connect the USB cable until it prompts you to connect it

Insert the green Windows CD into the computer after it
has been turned on and started up.

Once the USB prompt appears, connect the USB cable to
the port on the back of the HP All-in-One, and then to any USB port on the computer.

1. Lower both the paper and the print cartridge door.
2. Connect the power cord and adapter.
3. Press ( On button).
4. Open the print cartridge door. Make sure the print carriage moves to the center.
5. Remove the tape from both cartridges.
6.
a. Hold the cartridges with the HP logo on top.
b. Insert tri-color cartridge in the left cartridge slot and the black cartridge in the right cartridge slot . Make sure you push the cartridges in firmly until they snap into place .

7. Close the print cartridge door.
IMPORTANT: Wait a few minutes while the alignment page is printed automatically.

8. After the alignment page is printed, place it face down on the glass as shown in the picture. Close the lid.

hope this help

I have a Lexmark x5470 & I get an error unsupported cartridge

Ink cartriges have chips in them, if the printer does so many prints without getting the "I've had a new Original Cart fitted" it will stop untill, you give it one, regardless if there ink or not

Im afraid it doesn't care that you only need to use the colour cartridge, it is designed to cost you money and make money for lexmark not refillers.

Welcome to our modern world, manufactures make the ink hard to recycle by incorperation of expensive chips that makes refillers, unable to make a easy dollar, because if that want to make cartridges that work they must also fit the expensive chip.

All empty cartridges have a little ink left in them because getting air in ink lines is not a thing we want.
