I'm trying to set up my Onkyo HT-r380 receiver (which came in the HT-S330 home theater system). I can get AM and FM radio to play on all the speakers. I can not get sound from my XBOX 360. The 360 is hooked up to the receiver's HDMI's input. My samsung to is connected to the reciever, the reciever's HDMI output is connected to the TV's input. I can see the XBOX on the TV but there is no sound. What should I do?

I looked at the manual and they provided the following settings.

To listen to audio received by the HDMI IN jacks through your TV's speakers:

  • Set the "TV Control" setting to "On" (? 37) for an p-compatible TV.
  • Set the "Audio TV OUT" setting to "On" (? 36) when the TV is not compatible with p or the "TV Control" setting to "Off".
  • Set your Blu-ray Disc/DVD player's HDMI audio output setting to PCM.
  • To listen to TV audio through the AV receiver, see "Connecting External Components" (? 17).

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.

What I think I did and how I fixed it!

FACTORY RESET ON EVERYTHING!

All you have to do is to do a factory reset on everything, but I thing mostly on your 605, but I would do it on the TV as well. I think what had happened is after I set everything up for the first time, it worked great. As the days when on I started to play with all of the futures the 605 and the TV had to offer. I was turning them on and off to see what everything did. What I think I did was, I turned on something in the 605 that the TV did not know how to cope with. If I had to guess, I think it is the Lip-sink feature (Spelling?) in the 605.

Anyway disconnect everything, look in your manuals of the TV and the 605 to see how to do the factory reset on both. Then turn your TV on. After it does it’s start up for the first time (again), start connecting the 605.

It has been working great for me after I did this. Do not count on help from the people you bought it from or the people who made it. This stuff is so new they do not really know how to fix it.

This might somewhat help. Today I went back .. I went HDMI out of the Cable box and DVD player into 2 of the TVs HDMI ins. The digital audio out from each, straight to the receiver and things are working ok. All speakers are working OK. Sound isnt as loud or crisp but unfortunately I found no other solution.

I cant get sound from my tv thru my ht-r380 reciever

This is most likely a connection or switch problem:
  • Make sure you are plugged into the appropriate sound out jacks on the TV
  • Make sure you are plugged in to the appropriate sound in jacks on the receiver
  • Make sure the source for the receiver is set correctly
  • ensure volume is set appropriately
  • ensure correct speakers are selected.
If you are playing a DVD, the input to the receiver should come from the DVD player

Have ajustments all screwed up

If you can’t resolve the issue yourself, try resetting
the AV receiver before contacting your Onkyo dealer.
To reset the AV receiver to its factory defaults,
turn it on and, while holding down the [VCR/DVR]
button, press the [ON/STANDBY] button. “Clear”
will appear on the display and the AV receiver will
enter Standby mode.
Note that resetting the AV receiver will delete your
radio presets and custom settings.

No audio from my PS3 through the Onkyo 5100 7.1

if you are using an HDMI cable dont expect sound to come out (even thought HDMI carries both audio and video) the onkyo HT-s5100's Receiver is the HT-r560. the 500 models of the onkyo receiver does not allow HDMI to carry both audio and video. it only allows the video signal to pass to the receiver.

if youre using optical for audio w/c is what you need then these are the steps you need to follow.
*first make sure that the optical connections are ok at the back of the receiver.
*make sure that your DIGITAL INPUT is set to either OPT1 or OPT2 whichever optical input you used to connect the optical cable.
*then go to your PS# settings : go to sound settings / audio moutput settings/ select digital out (optical).

then enjoy.....ü

Surround sound

It must be about the sound quality need of your amplifier. The sound processor simply needs to get clear signals from sources such as fm/am receiver, dvd/cd players etc. in order to manage'em to give you the optimum surround sound. If the fm receiver has an "FM MUTE" option, I recommend that you turn it on. By doing so, you'll receive only good quality fm stations, furthermore your amplifier will let you get surround sound. The second issue you mentioned has its own answer inside. Use a "new" cd player, you can get optical cables, digital coax cables to improve the performance if you like..
